Mississippi vs Tulane Odds: Rebels Favored by 7 in Ranked Matchup

There Could Be Plenty of Points When Ranked Teams Ole Miss and Tulane Meet Again

Will QBs Shine in Ranked Teams Matchup on Saturday?

There are just two games at the Football Bowl Subdivision level between two ranked teams. While the Ole Miss-Tulane matchup might not draw the national attention as the Alabama-Texas showdown, when it comes to the Mississippi vs Tulane odds, the Rebels are the road underdogs against the defending American Athletic Conference champions.

Tulane covered in 12 of its 14 games a season ago. The Green Wave were not listed as an underdog at home a season ago. Ole Miss was only 4-8-1 against the spread in 2022. The Rebels were 2-0-1 as road favorites last season.

When looking at the NCAA football scores, Ole Miss rolled to a 61-21 win as a 14-point favorite in 2021. The game finished over the 77.5-point total. It was the first meeting between the teams since 2012. Since 1997, Ole Miss is 6-0 against Tulane and has covered four of those matchups. The Rebels have been favored by at least 11 points in the last five meetings.

However, NCAA football predictions have a line that is currently at seven points for Saturday’s game. After the previous matchup had a 77.5-point total, that number has dropped to 64 for this showdown.

Tulane (+250) is the favorite to win the American Athletic Conference title, while the Rebels (+2000) are sixth in the odds to win the SEC title.

Ole Miss (+10000) is tied for 19th in the odds to win the national championship.

The Rebels are ranked 22nd in both national polls. Tulane is 24th in the Associated Press and 23rd in the coaches’ poll.

Getting Passing Grades

Ole Miss has led the SEC in rushing twice and finished second in the other two times over the last four seasons. However, in the season opener, the Rebels turned to quarterback Jaxson Dart to air it out.

Dart attempted 20 passes or less four times during his first season with the Rebels. He was 18-of-23 for 334 yards and four touchdown passes in the season-opening win over Mercer.

The 41 passing attempts were the most in a season opener since 2013.

Don’t be surprised to see last year’s freshman phenom Quinshon Judkins have more of a role running the ball than he did against Mercer. That could play a role in the Mississippi vs Tulane odds.

Michigan’s Blake Corum is the only running back with better odds to win the Heisman Trophy than the +5000 odds for Judkins.

Not Bad For Starters

Michael Pratt’s fourth season as Tulane’s starting quarterback began with a near-perfect performance. Pratt was 14-for-15 for 294 yards and four touchdowns against South Alabama.

It was the ninth time he completed at least 65% of his passes with Tulane going 7-2 in those games.

Things are slightly more challenging this week after Ole Miss didn’t allow a touchdown pass and just 142 yards on 31 passing attempts.

Ole Miss had 11 tackles for loss and four sacks in the season opener and will look to make Pratt as uncomfortable as possible. Keep that in mind when it comes to the Mississippi vs Tulane odds.

Last Meeting

Quarterback Matt Corral ran for four touchdowns and three for three others in a 61-21 win over Tulane. Even though Corral didn’t play in the fourth quarter, the Rebels had more than 700 yards of total offense.

The last time Ole Miss played in New Orleans was in 2012, when the Rebels won 39-0 as a 17.5-point favorite. The game finished under the 53-point total.

What to Expect

Tulane finished 69th among Football Bowl Subdivision teams in rushing defense in 2022, as the Green Wave allowed 152.3 yards per game. That rushing defense could be tested by Judkins in one of the more intriguing Week 2 matchups nationally.

Ole Miss is 1-4-1 in its last six games when favored by seven points or less.

When it comes to NCAA football games this weekend, this is one of eight games involving ranked teams that have a betting line in single digits.

The total has gone over in six of the last nine games played by the Rebels, as well as in four of the last five road games.

Ole Miss has won its last eight games played in September.

Tulane has covered in each of its last five games, with the total going over in the last six games played by the Green Wave. The total also finished over in the previous five contests that Tulane played at home.

Tulane has dropped its last 11 games to SEC teams. The Green Wave did cover in five of those matchups. Before the 61-21 loss to Ole Miss, Tulane saw seven consecutive games against SEC foes finish under the total.

Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s for most of the day on Saturday in New Orleans, with about 20% of rain so that shouldn’t impact what happens on the field.
