Best NFL Teasers For Week 3: Dog Picks and Avoids Trap-Infested Lines

It’s hard to win in the NFL. On paper, you have some relatively “easy” NFL matchups. A home favorite dominates while a better-coached team with a winning streak roll, right? Nope. If it was that easy, we wouldn’t need betting odds. Week 3 might just have plenty of upsets in the making. With that in mind, we put together the best NFL teaser plays featuring underdogs ready to crash parlays.

AFC South matchups are a grinding type of grease-fest. Bettors should turn to the underdogs in these matchups, even if it is the Texans. This team hasn’t won a lot. But it has consistently played Jacksonville well. In fact, Houston has won nine of its last 10 games against the Jaguars. And it is 7-1 in its last eight trips to Jacksonville.

Now, the Jaguars are predicted to be much better. This team did win the division and should return to the top of the NFL standings. But we’re not entirely sold on a team with a weak offensive line and an exploitable defense. Houston will, at least, be able to win the battle up front and keep this game close. We like Houston to keep it within 10 points. Tease Texans +10.5 (-150).

We like to make fun of ugly matchups like this. But when it comes to betting, we’ll gladly lean towards the underdog on the NFL spreads. Low-scoring games like this mean it’s hard for either to run away with the game. New England has owned the Jets – 14 straight wins. That’s embarrassing. But the gap is a lot closer now.

The Patriots continue to struggle on offense as Mac Jones and co. adjust to Bill O’Brien’s play-calling. If the Patriots go up early, they will try to run the Jets down with their running game. That means plenty of clock-eating and not as much scoring. But if they’re behind, Jones will air it out and that plays into the Jets’ ferocious passing defense. Either way, these teams will be inches apart. Take the 3.5 points on the Jets as one of the best NFL teasers this week. Tease Jets +3.5 (-155).

The Bills head to Washington as overestimated favorites. With a line at 6.5, Buffalo will need to blow Washington out because that’s how the team operates. Buffalo either destroys its opponent or loses a dogfight – the Bills are just 5-10 in games decided by seven points or fewer since 2021. And it just so happens this Washington team is not the type of dog to mess with.

The Commanders have been killing NFL scores today. Sure, both of their wins were sweaty. But that also means this team is experienced in managing these close games. Sam Howell is no Josh Allen. But he doesn’t have to be. He just needs to make fewer mistakes as his defense will keep the game close and force Buffalo to eventually cough the ball up.

Washington may still end up losing the game. But the best NFL teaser here is to take Washington at 7.5. This team will not be embarrassed in its first real home opener in two decades. Tease Commanders +7.5 (-160).
