Can Brock Purdy Continue MVP-Like Season Against Arizona?

49ers vs Cardinals Matchup Stats Favor The 49ers Across The Board

The San Francisco 49ers will take on the Arizona Cardinals looking for their 11th win of the season.

The 49ers had a weird stretch in the middle of the NFL season when they lost three straight games. But that losing stretch was due to injuries and fatigue.

Since the 49ers came off their bye week, San Francisco has been undefeated over the last five games. Meanwhile, they’ll take on an Arizona Cardinals team that got better in the second half of the season. However, they’re still 3-10 with three losses in their last five NFL games.

Still, the Cardinals earned a win against the Steelers last week and have some momentum heading home this week.

That said, oddsmakers have no hope for the Cardinals. They’ve got the 49ers listed at -13.5 (-115), with the total currently at 47.5.

Most sportsbooks believe the 49ers are the team to beat in the NFL. However, Arizona earned an upset win over multiple NFL teams with winning records this season. Can the Cardinals do it again on Sunday?

49ers vs Cardinals Matchup Stats

Although the 49ers have ten wins this season, they’ve only earned seven wins against the spread in 13 games this season. The 49ers have also hit the Over and Under in six games each and pushed in one game this year.

But while most teams struggle on the road, the 49ers have gone 5-2 away from home this season.

On the other hand, the Cardinals have also earned seven wins against the spread this season. Arizona is 7-5-1 against the spread and has two wins straight up at home this season.

The Over has also hit in seven of 13 games for Arizona this year.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals haven’t won a game against the 49ers since 2021. The 49ers have been double-digit favorites in three consecutive games against Arizona and have covered all three by scoring at least 35 points in each game.

Brock Purdy Is Fighting For The MVP Award

Just last year, Brock Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant. He was drafted with the final pick of the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

Heading into last season, the 49ers had Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance at quarterback. Purdy was the third-stringer. But the injuries at quarterback started to pile up, and Purdy got his chance to shine in his rookie season.

He helped carry the 49ers into the NFL playoffs and got them into the NFC Championship Game, where he, too, eventually got injured.

Purdy recovered in time for the season. The 49ers let Garoppolo head to Las Vegas and traded Trey Lance to the Cowboys to give Purdy the keys to the offense.

This season, he’s got the Niners sitting at 10-3 and has 3,553 yards passing with 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He’s been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

Purdy isn’t the leading candidate to win the MVP. However, he’s in the mix with Dak Prescott, the odds-on favorite.

Kyler Murray’s Development for The West Coast Offense

The Arizona Cardinals made some coaching changes after last year’s performance. When Drew Petzing was named the offensive coordinator for the Cardinals this season, he reached out to Kyler Murray to change his footwork.

That was probably the last thing Murray wanted to hear while rehabbing from his torn ACL injury. However, his footwork must change to run Petzing’s West Coast offense.

Murray was asked to put his left foot up instead of his right. While it didn’t feel right initially, Murray has gotten the hang of it.

Although this year hasn’t been fantastic for Murray, comparing and contrasting with such a small sample size is challenging. Murray will trust the process. Now, the Cardinals need to add more assets around him.

Another 30-Point Game For The 49ers!

The 49ers have scored 29.23 points per game this season. However, San Francisco had even more success when they faced the Cardinals.

Earlier this season, the 49ers added 35 points against Arizona in a 35-16 win. Christian McCaffrey scored four touchdowns, with three on the ground and one in the air.

It was a massive day for McCaffrey, who earned 20 carries for 106 yards and seven catches for another 71 yards.

Arizona has been weak defensively in all areas. However, the run defense has been atrocious. Arizona has allowed nearly 140 yards per game on the ground this season. It’s no wonder why McCaffrey had such a big day against Arizona earlier in the year.

The Cardinals have allowed 25.46 points per game this season. It’s one of the worst rates in the NFL.

On the other hand, Arizona’s offense has only scored 17.69 points per game. The differential between the offense and defense is more than a touchdown. The 49ers have a margin of nearly two touchdowns in their favor.

Arizona gained some momentum after defeating Pittsburgh. However, the Steelers were bound to regress after starting the first half of the season with fewer points and fewer yards earned than their opponents.

The NFC West standings have the 49ers at the top and the Cardinals at the bottom. That’s how the NFL score and odds will play out for this game.

Therefore, we’ll bet on a blowout in Arizona on Sunday using the NFL odds and the 49ers vs Cardinals matchup stats. Take the 49ers at -13.5 (-115).
