According to our latest power rankings, the Washington Commanders are 31st among the 32 NFL teams, while the Jets aren’t much better at 27.
Oddsmakers threw the Jets up as a 3-point favorite with a total of 40 to start. To nobody’s surprise, the spread has remained at 3, but the total has plummeted to 37, with the Jets still officially undecided at quarterback. Let’s start our Commanders vs Jets bet analysis, beginning with Washington.

Howell Looks To Finish Season Strong
The Washington Commanders ownership sent a strong message this week indicating that there will be massive changes in the organization. How that affects the team this week from a betting perspective is anybody’s guess, but quarterback Sam Howell indicates that he will control what’s in front of him and not put much thought into the future.
Howell is just 5-10 as a starter in his career but has completed 64.7% of his passes with 19 touchdowns. His 15 interceptions are cause for concern but when playing for a losing organization there will be times when balls need to be forced to make up a difference in scoring.
There is no doubt that a change would be welcomed for a team that is just 20-25 ATS since 2021, including 5-8-1 ATS this season.
Last week, the Commanders dropped a 28-20 decision against the Los Angeles Rams. That’s significant because, since 2017, Washington is just 4-11-2 ATS the week after losing by 7-10 points and 5-14-2 ATS if we expand that parameter to games lost by 6 to 12 points.
NFL betting stats in 2023 show the Commanders 1-1-1 using that filter. That’s .500 for now, but history tells us that Washington will likely fall under .500 as the season progresses. We now turn our Commanders vs Jets bet analysis focus to New York.
Crash Landing For Jets Offense In 2023
We’re all aware that this was not the way it was supposed to be for a New York offense that is ranked dead last in the NFL. 30th in passig yards, 30th in rushing yards, 30th in scoring.
Their -9 turnover ratio is only matched by this week’s opponent, making this game a must-bet-on affair because no one in their right mind would watch this trainwreck without something on the line.
Some bright spots are starting with WR Garrett Wilson, who has 882 yards receiving this year, along with three touchdowns. Against the league’s worst defense, Wilson may be able to find some room to have a big day, but that all depends on who is throwing the passes.
Zach Wilson has not been ruled out to start even though he remains in concussion protocol. If Wilson can’t go then we’ll see Trevor Siemian behind center.
It’s worth noting that Zach Wilson’s Mom pointed out in an Instagram post that the quarterback was suffering from blurred vision along with problems with depth perception.

When Mom Helps Us Handicap
There is nothing about the words Siemian or depth perception that gives us confidence that we’re going to see a bunch of points scored on Sunday. This season, 9 of the Jets 14 games have cashed under tickets and it isn’t because of the Jets defense.
Even during this recent run of four overs in five games, it’s because New allowed more than 28 points in each and 45 in back-to-back weeks against Dallas and Miami. The Jets, who have averaged 16 points a game over the last four weeks, have been dragged over the total.
We don’t think Washington is capable of that in what may end up being one of the most ugly games of the year. As stated earlier, we must put the lipstick on this game by putting it on our NFL betting prediction list or there is no reason to throw three hours away.
Take the under-37, but get it now because it seems the public will continue to pound the under no matter who starts at quarterback for the puddle jumpers.
