NHL: Philadelphia Flyers vs Chicago Blackhawks Preview

The Flyers know these are the games they need to win with the Devils five points back.

The Philadelphia Flyers (29-20-7, 65 points) conclude their three-game road trip with a stop in Chicago to take on the Blackhawks (15-38-3, 33 points), who are fighting with the San Jose Sharks (35 points) for the honors of being the worst team in hockey. According to the recent NHL playoff standings (before Tuesday’s games), Philly is third in the Metro Division, 10 points behind the New York Rangers.

The Devils have two games in hand heading into Tuesday’s game at Washington, so winning the so-called easy games is a must for Philadelphia. Oddsmakers opened the Flyers a -190 road favorite with a total of 5.5 (over -135). The first puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT from the United Center and can be seen on TNT as the national game. Let’s start our Flyers vs Blackhawks preview with John Tortorella’s Flyers.

Flyers Hope To Bounce Back After National TV Loss

In front of 70,328 and a massive television audience watching, the Philadelphia Flyers were thoroughly beaten by the home New Jersey Devils, 6-3. It was a game that was never close after Nathan Bastian made it 4-1 late in the second. Philly’s competitive level was non-existent, and it would be fair to say that New Jersey controlled the first and third periods.

The Flyers were strong in the second, but Devils goaltender Nico Daws made 45 saves to preserve the victory. That’s not good news for the Blackhawks, who will get a tart Flyers club coming in on Wednesday. This will be the final chance for Philly to get a win on their current three-game road trip after starting with a 4-3 OT loss at Toronto. Bettors have enjoyed a tremendous season, backing the Flyers with 6.59 units won.

Only two other teams have produced more profit (Vancouver +9.53, St. Louis +10.07) than the Flyers with 6.59 units. Bettors beware because all of the Philadelphia profit has come as an underdog with 6.61 units won (21-21), but 8-6 (-2) as a dog. It’s not the biggest NHL game on the card, but it’s very important to the Flyers.

Chicago Is Never A Betting Option

To give you a clear idea of how bad the Chicago Blackhawks have been this season, only once (Dec 7-9) have the Hawks had a winning streak of two games and never three.

Chicago has lost nine of their last 10 games overall but has been a respectable 6-7 at the United Center. In their recent loss to Carolina, 6-3, the differences between the two teams can be summed up in one word, and that’s speed.

It doesn’t help when Luke Richardson is trying to build a core of stars with his young talent, but that creates a problem because players tend to think too much, and that’s when you lose speed. For bettors, Chicago has been the worst wager this season with a 13.73-unit loss, with the next closest team being the Columbus Blue Jackets (-10.07 units). All of the units lost are on the road (-15.52 units), but at home, the Hawks have been a plus money wager with 1.79 units won. Let’s finalize our picks and parlays with tonight’s official selection.

Grab The Plus Money

That doesn’t mean go all-in with the Blackhawks, we would never say such things with that much conviction when it comes to the Hawks. The total may get pushed up to six soon because the over is -135 with a nice +115 return with the under.

Chicago has been a terrific under wager all season, with 32 under wins in 54 decisions and 14 of the last 20. The Flyers have also been a decent under wager with 30 unders in 53 decisions setting up a spot where I usually go the opposite of teams with the same tendencies but we have a hard to figuring out where the goals will come from.

Philadelphia have allowed 13 goals in three games, but we don’t think they’ll be pressured as much by Chicago. Get the plus money while you can, but if this goes to six, that would be the worst thing to get the extra half-goal. That does it for our Flyers vs Blackhawks preview, all the bet with your wagers.
