The 19th-ranked Washington State Cougars (6-0/3-0) head to Eugene, Oregon to take on the 8th-ranked Oregon Ducks (5-1 / 2-1) at Autzen Stadium, on Saturday. The Cougars were bit by the Arizona Wildcats (44-6) as a 7.5-point favorite last week, while the Ducks suffered their first loss of the season but continued to cash tickets for bettors. Oregon is a massive 20-point favorite with a total of 62. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 pm ET and can be seen on ABC. Sloppy Play Has Cougars Looking For Answers

Everything started well enough for Washington State in 2023 after winning their first four games, but since the Cougars have turned the ball over seven times in back-to-back losses to UCLA and Arizona. Jake Dickert’s team was once moving up the polls but now is nowhere to be found.

Quarterback Cameron Ward has had very little help on the ground, resembling Mike Leach’s teams rather than a more balanced attack that helped them to a 4-0 start. The passing game is fifth in the nation with 338.5 yards per game, averaging 34.3 points per game (31st), but there is a sense that as games go along the Cougars are unwilling to use a running game that has averaged 92.2 yards per game.

Despite a couple of crushing losses, Washington State is still one of the better programs to have your money behind with a 19-8 ATS record (+9.31 units) since 2021. They also have a sparkling record against Oregon, covering 13 of their last 18 meetings and 11 of 16 as an underdog. A win here would catapult the Cougars back into the NCAAF rankings discussion once again.

Oregon Won’t Take Cougars Lightly

It would be easy for Dan Lanning’s team to take Washington State lightly. But all they need to do is go back a year when the Cougars gave the Ducks all they could handle in Pullman, 36-33. Lanning was the target of criticism after going for it on fourth down four times, twice inside the Huskies 10 which clearly would have given Oregon a win with six more points.

Lanning’s offense failed to get the first down on three of four attempts. From that, Lanning said something that should stick out to bettors. He said he’s going to be aggressive to win games. How did that translate to us? We have a coach who is going to run up the score this week to wash away the second guessers. The Ducks are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 15 games against FBS schools are 11-3 ATS in that span.
