Serie A: Napoli vs Lazio Betting Preview, Odds

Defending Champions Napoli off to Perfect Start

Lazio Suffer Concerning Losses

Napoli won their first Scudetto for over 30 years in 2022-23, and early signs in 2023-24 are encouraging. The Partenopei have won their first two matches, even with star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia out. Meanwhile, Saturday’s opponents Lazio, have lost two matches that they were favored to win. We’ll look at which team’s streak is more likely to be broken in our Napoli vs Lazio betting preview.

NAP Napoli vs Lazio LAZ

Day/Time:
Location: Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Naples, Italy

Head-to-Head:

Recent Serie A scores between Napoli and Lazio have gone the road team’s way in the last three meetings. Last season, Lazio got a 1-0 win in Napoli, and Napoli managed a 2-1 win in Rome. Lazio’s win at Napoli was their first since 2015, and Napoli have won four of the last five head-to-head matchups between these sides.

Kvaratskhelia Returns for Napoli

There’s no doubt that the most dynamic duo in Serie A last season was Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Napoli attackers terrorized defenses and were two of the biggest reasons Napoli won the Scudetto. While Osimhen found the net twice in Napoli’s opening match, Kvaratskhelia missed out on the 3-1 win over Frosinone with an injury.

Osimhen once again scored against Sassuolo, confidently sending a penalty into the net. Meanwhile, Kvaratskhelia came on as a substitute and made an instant impact in his 2023-24 debut. The Georgian winger set up captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo on Napoli’s second goal. The match finished 2-0 for Napoli as they improved to 2-0 in the standings.

Serie A predictions generally give Inter Milan the best shot to win the title this season, but Napoli have what it takes to repeat. They’ve started strongly under new manager Rudi Garcia, and Victor Osimhen is in the joint Serie A lead with three goals. Di Lorenzo has also added two assists. Napoli vs Lazio betting previews also note that the Partenopei are favored in this match.

Lazio’s Slow Start

Lazio lost one of their key players to Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal in the offseason. Center midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic departed having scored 57 Serie A goals in eight seasons with Lazio. His goal contributions will undoubtedly be missed, and Lazio have scored just one goal in their first two games.

Lazio took on Lecce in their opener but blew a one-goal lead to fall 2-1. The Biancocelesti then had newly promoted Genoa on their Serie A schedule, and Lazio were favorites again. However, the Biancocelesti just couldn’t get anything going offensively as Genoa snagged a 1-0 win. Ciro Immobile, who scored in Lazio’s opener, had an excellent chance to level things up but hit the crossbar.

Lazio are now 0-2 and need to turn things around in short order. They finished in second place in Serie A last season and are a Champions League club but have looked anything but thus far. Perhaps Maurizio Sarri will shake things up a bit, and we’ll see more of the new attacking signings, Valentin Castellanos and Gustav Isaksen.

Match Analysis & Odds

Even though Napoli vs Lazio betting previews note that Lazio won on the road vs. the Partenopei last season, the odds don’t give Lazio too much of a chance here. The Biancocelesti come in as one-goal underdogs and are in danger of a third straight loss just before the international break begins. Lazio will want to build some momentum before they have next weekend off and Lazio +1 displays -140 odds here.

Meanwhile, with Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia healthy, Napoli are -155 underdogs. Napoli -1 also shows +120 odds, but they haven’t beaten Lazio by more than a one-goal margin in any of the last three meetings. Still, Napoli are 2-0 ATS thus far. Both over and under 2.5 goals sit at -110 odds, as this one seems to be a bit of a crapshoot.

Lazio has put just six shots on target through two matches compared to Napoli’s 13, and the Biancocelesti are +430 underdogs for this match. Punters can take a draw at +295 odds, but each of the last 14 meetings between these sides has had a winner.
