UEFA Denmark vs France Odds: Nations League Betting

Teams Also Paired at World Cup

Significant Match for Both Teams, Different Reasons

After dropping Thursday’s match to Croatia, Denmark are in a difficult position in the UEFA Nations League. They need to win their final match vs France and hope for a Croatia tie or loss vs Austria. If not, they’ll finish second in League A, Group 1 and just miss out on the UEFA Nations League semifinals. France finally got their first win in the competition on Thursday and could prove a tricky opponent. Still, with all of France’s absences, Denmark are getting Les Bleus at a good time. Let’s check on the Danes’ chances of winning as we preview the UEFA Denmark vs France odds.

Head-to-Head

Two late goals from Andreas Cornelius completed Denmark’s 2-1 comeback win over France in June. It was France’s first ever loss to Denmark at home. France lead the all-time series but the competitive meetings have been split evenly. Both teams have won three times, with one draw. These teams drew 0-0 at the 2018 World Cup, which France ended up winning. They’ll also face off in Group D at Qatar 2022 on November 26 where the UEFA Denmark vs France odds preliminarily price France as even money favorites.

Do or Die for Denmark

  • UEFA Nations League Standings: 3-2-0, 2nd (Group 1)

Heading into the international break, Denmark were in the driver’s seat in Group 1. However, they fell behind in the second half at Croatia on Thursday and didn’t look very much like themselves. A stunning Christian Eriksen strike leveled the match in the 77th minute, but Croatia’s Lovro Majer got the winner two minutes later.  Now, the 2-1 loss has taken matters out of their own hands.

The Danes absolutely need to win now, with just one match left on their UEFA Nations League schedule 2022. Andreas Cornelius, who scored a brace in Denmark’s win over France in June, is out of the squad to make matters tougher. With Jonas Wind also out, Kasper Dolberg and former Barcelona man Martin Braithwaite have to step up. When talisman Christian Eriksen is on the pitch, the Danes will always be dangerous regardless.

Eriksen has been in great form for Manchester United since joining the club. The goal vs Croatia was his first in the Nations League and expect him to create chances on Sunday. Manager Kasper Hjulmand will be concerned about his defense, which conceded two goals for the first time in this Nations League campaign.

France Get First Win Despite Disarray

  • UEFA Nations League Standings: 1-2-2, 3rd (Group 1)

There are eerie echoes of the 2010 disaster leading up to the 2022 World Cup for France. Star player Kylian Mbappe recently fought with the French Football Federation over image rights. Mbappe announced his intention to refuse to take part in last Tuesday’s team activities, which triggered an emergency meeting. Apparently, an agreement has been reached but it’s not the best sign.

Plus, a bunch of France’s key players remain out injured and a further two were injured vs Austria. Captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is out of the squad and backup Mike Maignan was subbed out vs Austria. If Maignan misses Sunday, Alphonse Areola in line to play again. In defense, Ibrahima Konate, Lucas Hernandez, Theo Hernandez and Presnel Kimpembe are out. Jules Kounde was also substituted off vs Austria and is unlikely to be risked vs Denmark.

Paul Pogba, who is currently under police protection due to an extortion scheme, is out as well. He joins N’Golo Kante, Adrien Rabiot and Boubacar Kamara on the midfield injury list. Karim Benzema and Kingsley Coman are out up top as well.

It’d be easy for France to pack it in and give up but this match has meaning for them. If they lose and Austria were to win vs Croatia, Les Bleus would be relegated to the Nations League B. Even with all of the absences, Olivier Giroud and Mbappe managed to fire France to a 2-0 win vs Austria on Thursday. It was France’s first win in five Nations League games. Bet on France soccer league is popular but it’s been hard to recommend putting any money on the national team lately.

Odds & Preview

Denmark last lost on home soil over two years ago but the UEFA Denmark vs France odds price them as +210 underdogs. The oddsmakers are feeling more confident about France, despite all of their absences. Les Bleus sit at +110 odds heading into Sunday’s match. France’s Olivier Giroud has three career goals vs Denmark and figures to feature with Benzema out. Giroud is just three goals away from breaking Thierry Henry’s record of 51 goals for the national team.

Notably, none of Denmark’s last 14 matches have finished in a draw. As a result, a draw stands as the outcome that’s implied as least likely, at +240 odds. France have drawn two of their five matches in the Nations League, both by 1-1 scorelines. Les Bleus’ 2-0 win over Austria bucked their trends in some major ways, though. It was their first win and first shutout of the competition. Plus, it was the first time they managed to score more than a single goal.

Four of France’s five matches in the Nations League have finished with two goals or fewer. So, it’s no surprise that under 2½ goals stands at -140 odds. Both of Denmark’s previous home matches have finished with two or fewer goals as well. This is expected to be a tight match and certainly the result could go either way here. Both teams have a lot to play for and a France loss would certainly crater morale even further heading into Qatar 2022.
