XFL Week 8 Odds Preview: Game Changers

Massive Week 7 Upset Has Shifted the XFL Odds

Conspicuous Lines For XFL Week 8

Thanks to a huge upset from Week 7, the XFL Week 8 odds look a bit different. The previously unbeaten D.C. Defenders now enter as underdogs for the first time since Week 1. Meanwhile, the then-winless Orlando Guardians are favorites for the first time this season. Momentum has shifted a bit thanks to Orlando’s stunning win over D.C. and it all comes with just three weeks of the regular season remaining.

XFL Week 7 Betting Report: Upset of the Year

No, it was not an April Fool’s joke. The Guardians really did beat the Defenders in what came down as the biggest upset of the 2023 XFL season. Orlando was a 9.5-point underdog on the football spreads. But quarterback Quinten Dormady said “eff that” and proceeded to torch the Defenders to the tune of 328 passing yards and six total touchdowns (three passing and three rushing).

The Guardians won a game for the first time. And even if they still have next-to-no shot at the postseason, this could be their championship moment. Orlando improved to 4-3 against the spread making it one of the better XFL 2023 teams to bet on despite its record. And inspired by its underdog performance, the Battlehawks engineered their own upset against the Roughnecks.

St. Louis was a three-point underdog in visiting Houston. But the Battlehawks outlasted the Roughnecks in what was a sloppy game to start. Quarterback A.J. McCarron had another solid outing with 222 passing yards and three touchdowns as the Battlehawks kept up with the Sea Dragons, who also won their fifth straight game.

Vegas Vipers vs St Louis Battlehawks

Record: Vipers (2-5)/Battlehawks (5-2)
Date & Time:
Location: The Dome at America’s Center, St. Louis, MO
Streaming: ESPN, ESPN+

The Battlehawks return to St. Louis where they host the Vipers, who are winless as a visitor (0-2). St. Louis is favored by a touchdown in what is expected to be a high-scoring game with a total of 46.5. This is also a rematch of their Week 6 meeting where St. Louis held Vegas to just six points. Wide receiver Darrius Shepherd caught seven of 10 passes for 79 yards and two TDs.

Arlington Renegades vs Orlando Guardians

Record: Renegades (3-4)/Guardians (1-6)
Date & Time:
Location: Camping World Stadium, Orlando, FL
Streaming: ESPN, ESPN+

Seeing the Guardians as favorites on the XFL week 8 odds feels all kinds of surreal. But here they are as one-point favorites over the Renegades, who managed a one-point victory over them in Week 3. But now the action shifts to Orlando’s home turf where the team made magic previously. Six of Orlando’s seven games have gone over the total. However, Arlington averages just 13 points per game. The total is 42 points.

Houston Roughnecks vs San Antonio Brahmas

Record: Roughnecks (4-3)/Brahmas (2-5)
Date & Time:
Location: Alamodome, San Antonio, TX
Streaming: ABC, ESPN+

Pardon the pun, but the Roughnecks have had it rough lately. This team has lost three straight games with two of them being as favorites. But fans should not panic. Not only do the XFL Week 8 odds expect Houston to get back to winning, but the outright odds still have the team as the second-likeliest champion (+225) just behind D.C. (+130). As for the Brahmas, they’re still hunting for their first win at the Alamodome (0-2). The 40.5 total in this game is Week 8’s lowest.

D.C. Defenders vs Seattle Sea Dragons

Record: Defenders (6-1)/Dragons (5-2)
Date & Time:
Location: Lumen Field, Seattle, WA
Streaming: ESPN, ESPN+

While Houston is skidding, the Sea Dragons are surging. Seattle is unbeaten since Week 3 and is now favored to hand D.C. another loss. Ben DiNucci leads the XFL in passing yards while the Defenders lead the league in rushing yards. Both defenses will be put to the test. Seattle has not allowed a team to hit the 20-point mark since Week 3 while the Defenders have seven interceptions, three of which they returned for touchdowns. The total of 47.5 is the highest for Week 8 and four of Seattle’s five games as a favorite have gone over.
