Hosts Favored by XFL Odds as Playoff Race Intensifies
With two weeks left in the 2023 XFL season, only two teams have clinched a playoff spot: the division leaders in D.C. to the North and the Houston Roughnecks to the South. The runner-up berths are still to be decided as St. Louis and Seattle faces each other for the right to rematch D.C. Meanwhile, Arlington can clinch its spot in the South by winning this week. But the XFL week 9 odds only favor the home teams this weekend.
XFL Week 8 Betting Report: Underdogs Bite Back
Favorites could sweep this week and it comes on the heels of all the underdogs covering the spread for Week 8. Per the XFL betting news, the dogs also went 2-2 on the moneyline with Arlington upsetting Orlando and D.C. edging Seattle. Vegas and San Antonio also nearly won their games, which both went into overtime. Ultimately, St. Louis and Houston won, respectively.
It was one of the more thrilling weeks for the XFL as the playoff race heat up. All the games were decided by one score, which is the first time. The Renegades eliminated the Guardians from the postseason by defeating them. San Antonio also went to the brink by failing to win. As for D.C. and Houston, they clinched their playoff spots.
Three of the four games also went under their respective totals. Only the Defenders-Sea Dragons game, as their previous betting history indicated, went over the total. These defensive showdowns could continue on to Week 9 as the playoff picture can be set if the right teams win their matchups.
Vegas Vipers (2-6) vs Houston Roughnecks (5-3)

Houston Roughnecks already clinched a spot in the division championships and will look to secure home turf advantage by beating Vegas. The XFL week 9 odds favor the Roughnecks significantly at 6.5 points (-265 on the moneyline). Vegas has yet to win on the road while Houston is 3-1 at home. The host also leads the XFL in sacks (29.0) and total interceptions (11). It can make life hell for Vegas’s offense.
Orlando Guardians (1-7) vs San Antonio Brahmas (2-6)

After one week as a favorite, the Guardians are back to being underdogs (+2) as they visit the Brahmas. With a total of 39 points, this could be the lowest-scoring game (39) per the XFL week 9 odds. San Antonio has scored the second-fewest points while giving up the fewest. That’s why six of its eight games went under the total. Their previous matchup with Orlando did go over the total with San Antonio scoring a season-high 30 points.
Arlington Renegades (4-4) vs D.C. Defenders (7-1)

Arlington is unlikely to clinch a playoff spot as it is the largest underdog (+320) with +8.5 on the spread. The Defenders bounced back and upset Seattle and will continue to boast the league’s top rushing attack and opportunistic defense. The 41.5-point total is the second-lowest of the week as four of the Renegades’ past five games as an underdog has gone ‘under’.
Seattle Sea Dragons (5-3) vs St. Louis Battlehawks (6-2)

The main event of the week is like a playoff game. St. Louis, favored by a point as the host, can clinch a playoff spot by beating the Sea Dragons. St. Louis has never lost to a team outside of D.C. and its +40 point differential is behind only D.C. and Houston. The Battlehawks are also 4-0 as a favorite. Seattle is 3-1 on the road. With 46 points in the total, the XFL odds expect this game to be the highest scoring for Week 9. Six of Seattle’s eight games have gone over the total.
