Dodgers’ Offseason Masterclass Continues With the Signing of Yamamoto

After a Disappointment End of the Season, the Dodgers Just Spent Over 1 Billion on Three Signings

Japan’s Finest 🤩

This is just getting unfair. There was a bombshell MLB news story dropped last night as it was revealed that Japanese right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto has signed a 12-year, $325 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. They were able to beat out big-market teams like the New York Yankees, New York Mets, and San Francisco Giants.

According to MLB rumors, the Mets actually matched the Dodgers’ offer but he chose to go to Los Angeles. This is after the team just recently gave Shohei Ohtani a $700 million contract and Tyler Glasnow a $136.5 million contract after trading for him. Los Angeles has committed over a billion dollars to just three players this offseason.

Landing Yamaoto is absolutely massive for the Dodgers. The only major concern on the roster was that they didn’t have an ace pitcher. Ohtani likely can’t pitch until next season, Walker Buehler is coming off of two Tommy John surgeries and Glasnow isn’t an ace. If the Dodgers can get Clayton Kershaw back for one more season, this is a great rotation of pitchers.

Yamamoto is getting an insane contract but he’s the real deal. He’s dominated Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan and has won three straight MVPs while posting a 1.65 ERA.

Considering the success that Japanese players have had in MLB games, he should be a stud quickly. That said, there will likely be a bit of an adjustment period as MLB hitters are the best in the world.

The Dodgers have arguably been the most consistent team in baseball over the past decade but they only have one World Series win to show for it.

Ownership and the front office are sick of not winning it all. This is without a doubt the most stacked roster in the MLB. Ohtani is the best player in baseball and Yamamoto has a chance to be a Cy Young-level pitcher.

The batting order now features Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Mookie Betts, who have all won MVP awards. That’s not even mentioning All-Stars like Will Smith and Max Muncy. This is just a ridiculous lineup. And just wait until 2025 when Ohtani will hopefully be able to pitch again.

It’s also worth noting that Ohtani has differed most of his contract until 2032 so the Dodgers could be big spenders once again next year.

The Dodgers are World Series-or-bust for the next several years and anything short of winning multiple championships across the next decade would be considered a massive failure.
