The FIFA scriptwriters continue to pen a story full of twists and turns for Gio Reyna which has included plenty of soccer rumors. Reyna cemented the USMNT’s latest edition of a dos a cero victory over Mexico in the Nations League final.

Think back to the 2022 World Cup when the idea of Reyna even playing was far-fetched, much less scoring a brilliant game-cementing goal against a rival. What would then unfold was a very public spat between Reyna’s family and USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter.
Allegations about Berhalter were brought forward reportedly by the Reyna family who were frustrated with their son’s lack of playing time. All this has been incredibly sad, but would make for an intoxicating 30 for 30.
Reyna has now emerged as one of the United States key players heading into Copa America.

Tyler Adams Won the Internet With His Wonder Goal After Year-Plus Layoff
Reyna’s redemption involves some wounds that were self-inflicted by the young striker. This is not the case for American hero Tyler Adams who has battled multiple serious injuries to get back on the field.

Adams scored a wonder goal in his first USMNT match in more than 470 days. The re-emergence of these two players combined with Captain America, Christian Pulisic puts the USMNT in a good spot heading into Copa America. Reyna emphasized that the drama between him and Berhalter is in the past.
“If we didn’t put it in the past, it would’ve been affecting the team, and I think that was most important for both of us: to put it in the past and focus on the team,” Reyna explained. “I think the last few camps since we’ve been back together, they’ve been pretty successful camps.”
Now, it is Reyna’s play on the field that has his teammates’ attention. Adams labeled Reyna a “special” player.
“The kid’s unbelievable,” Adams said of Reyna. “To be in the situation he’s in right now, and to be able to be that confident when you come into camp, and put performances in like that — it’s special.”
A Nations League title does put the USMNT into the top contender status with Argentina and Brazil heading into Copa America. It does show there is a pathway towards the United States making soccer news by competing with the top teams this summer.

The USMNT will need to prove the drama is indeed in the past and that there are more wonder goals in future soccer games.
