Soccer Shocker: Rubiales World Cup Kiss and Suspension

FIFA Takes Action and Gets Luis Rubiales Suspended

Luis Rubiales, the head of Spain’s soccer federation, has been put on the sidelines by FIFA for 90 days. This comes after an incident at the Women’s World Cup Final that raised plenty of eyebrows and shook plenty of heads.

Rubiales made headlines for kissing player Jenni Hermoso on the lips after Spain’s win. But here’s the twist – Hermoso said she didn’t agree to it. This caused a veritable storm, with not only the players and clubs demanding that Rubiales step down, but also the Spanish government. This, of course, got Luis Rubiales suspended.

He Said, She Said

Rubiales isn’t backing down. He insists the kiss was consensual, but Hermoso is having none of it. Still, Rubiales vows to fight to keep his position and role, and stand strong against the pressure to resign.

“I’m facing a lot of pressure. Maybe they’ll try to remove me on Monday. But we’re a country of rules. Can they kick me out over a kiss? I’ll fight till the end. I hope the law prevails. If there’s no real reason [to remove me], they shouldn’t.”

Even More Pressure: A Team Ultimatum

In a World Cup kiss latest aftermath spin, Spain’s players are taking a stand: they’re saying no more games under Rubiales’ watch. The World Cup favorites clinched victory at the Women’s World Cup, defeating England 1-0. But the focus shifted to his actions – the kiss and a controversial groin-grabbing gesture he made during the game, which got Luis Rubiales suspended. Players like Borja Iglesias from the men’s team and even the women’s World Cup-winning squad are united: no play while Rubiales stays on.

And what’s more, in the midst of the turmoil, Spain’s World Cup coaching staff has stepped down – almost all of them. Head coach Jorge Vilda remains in Rubiales’ corner, but the rest are moving on.

As we await FIFA’s verdict, questions abound: will the investigation uncover anything else? Will Rubiales face more consequences?
