Freiburg Winless in Last Five Bundesliga Games

Bayern Playing Catch Up

Bayern Munich ended a three game losing streak by defeating RB Leipzig on Saturday. Regardless, the Bavarians have fallen eight points behind in the Bundesliga title race. So, they’ll need to grab three points from the vast majority of their games from here on out. On Friday, Bayern head to Freiburg, who are winless in their last five Bundesliga matches. As Bayern try to play catch up, we’ll go through the Freiburg vs Bayern Munich odds.

Freiburg vs Bayern Munich Head-to-Head

Bayern Munich have emerged victorious in each of their last five matches vs. SC Freiburg on the Bundesliga schedule. Last October, Bayern defeated Freiburg 3-0 at the Allianz as Kingsley Coman scored a double. Freiburg did beat Bayern 2-1 in last season’s DFB-Pokal Quarter-Final. However, Freiburg haven’t picked up a win vs. Bayern in a Bundesliga match since 2015. That makes Bayern Munich unbeaten in the last 15 league meetings.

Unpredictable Freiburg Up and Down

Exhausted from an incredible extra time comeback victory over Lens in the Europa League last Thursday, Freiburg fell 2-1 at Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Freiburg have now conceded at least two goals in each of their last six Bundesliga games. Through 23 matches, Christian Streich’s side have conceded 42 Bundesliga goals. Only four teams have conceded more times. Freiburg have also won just one of their last seven Bundesliga games.

They’ve fallen to ninth place in the Bundesliga table, 12 points outside of a Champions League place. Freiburg are nothing if not unpredictable. Last Thursday, in the second leg of the Europa League Play-off, Freiburg fell behind 2-0 to Lens at home. In the second half, Freiburg threw the kitchen sink at Lens and were rewarded with two Roland Sallai goals.

In extra time, Michael Gregoritsch, who previously missed a few chances, became the matchwinner and Freiburg advanced to the round of 16. A couple of weekends ago Freiburg also fell behind vs. Eintracht Frankfurt on three separate occasions. Each time, they managed to get an equalizer in a 3-3 draw.

All of this unpredictability doesn’t lend itself to being a consistent soccer betting pick. However, the over has hit more often than not in recent Freiburg games. Their last six Bundesliga matches have averaged 4.2 goals per game. While Freiburg have been poor on the road this season, they are 5-4-2 at home. Freiburg have scored less than a goal per game from open play, though. All of Lukas Kubler, Yannik Keitel and Philipp Lienhart are injured for this one. Currently, the Freiburg vs Bayern Munich odds price the hosts as +495 underdogs.

Bayern End Losing Streak

Bayern Munich avoided a fourth straight defeat overall when they took down RB Leipzig 2-1 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. Harry Kane was once again at the center of the action for the Bavarians and he opened up the scoring in the 56th minute. Benjamin Sesko equalized for visiting RB Leipzig less than 15 minutes later, which set up an exciting ending. In stoppage time, Eric Dier played a long ball over the top for substitute Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who controlled and played a pass for Harry Kane to volley in for the winner.

Kane has now scored 27 Bundesliga goals and he could break Robert Lewandowski’s single-season record of 41. He’s been one of the best Bundesliga players this season. However, Kane is still without a major trophy in his career and Bayern are at serious risk of missing out on the title. The 11-time defending champions show +450 outright Bundesliga odds and they’re eight points behind unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern are averaging more points per game than they did last season but Leverkusen’s dominance has been tough to match. While Dayot Upamecano is returning from a suspension on Friday, fellow defender Matthijs de Ligt will serve a one match ban at Freiburg. Fullbacks Sacha Boey and Noussair Mazraoui are both injured, along with Kingsley Coman. Bayern will feel confident about getting on the scoresheet, especially given Freiburg’s recent defensive record.

Freiburg vs Bayern Munich Match Analysis & Odds

Bayern Munich simply cannot afford any more slip ups in the title race, which is not at all over yet. The Bavarians will only be thinking about three points on Sunday and the Freiburg vs Bayern Munich odds imply they have an excellent chance to come away with a win. Bayern enter Friday’s match as -200 road favorites and they’ve won three of their last four matches at the Europa-Park Stadion.

At the same time, Freiburg are +495 home underdogs and they’ve won just one of their last four home Bundesliga games. Bayern have also averaged three goals per game in their last five Bundesliga matches vs. Freiburg. Bayern have also conceded in each of their last six matches overall. Still, under 3, 3.5 goals are priced at -120 odds for this one. Bettors can also take Freiburg +1, +1.5 at -120 odds or Bayern Munich -1, -1.5 at even odds.

A draw sits at +380 and it’d be another disappointment for Bayern. Freiburg don’t exactly have a danger man that will worry the Bayern defense, even though Sallai did score two goals last week. They can be dangerous on set pieces though and Bayern will have to remain focused. Kane has scored five goals in his last five Bundesliga matches for Bayern and he’ll look to add to his season tally on Friday.
