Head-to-Head

Last season’s Bundesliga results in this fixture were 4-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt and 2-1 to RB Leipzig as the home side won both matches. Leipzig also defeated Frankfurt 2-0 in the DFB-Pokal final as Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai got on the scoresheet. Four of the last seven meetings have finished in draws and Leipzig have also lost just one of the last seven.

Forsberg, Werner Set to Depart RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig could only manage a draw on the road at Werder Bremen in their last match before the Bundesliga’s winter break. A persistent Lois Openda opened up the scoring for visitors Leipzig early in the second half on his third attempt in quick succession.

Werder’s Justin Njinmah equalized 75 minutes in and the match finished all square at one. It was longtime midfielder Emil Forsberg’s last match with RB Leipzig as he just joined sister club New York Red Bulls in MLS.

Forsberg made almost 200 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig and is undoubtedly a club legend. Leipzig still have players like Kevin Kampl, Xavi Simons, Xaver Schlager, Amadou Haidara and new signing Eljif Elmas in midfield. Simons is tied for second in the Bundesliga stats, with seven assists so far this season. Elmas previously played for Napoli, where he won a Serie A title in 2022-23.

Along with Forsberg, Timo Werner is set to depart the club this month. Werner, who has scored two Bundesliga goals this season, is close to joining Tottenham on loan. Any RB Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt Analysis will note that Leipzig could be missing two starting center backs in this one. Willi Orban is out with a knee injury, while Mohamed Simakan is dealing with an illness and will likely be subject to a late fitness test. Creative midfielder Dani Olmo is also out for Leipzig and Amadou Haidara is on international duty.

Eintracht Frankfurt Active in Transfer Market

Just one week into the January transfer window, Eintracht Frankfurt have already completed loan deals for Sasa Kalajdzic and Donny Van de Beek. Kalajdzic is a 6’7” striker who missed nearly all of last season with an ACL injury but can add another dimension up front. Meanwhile, Van de Beek has been a Manchester United outcast for the last few seasons and the Dutch midfielder is looking to revive his career. With six losses in their last eight matches in all competitions, Frankfurt desperately need a spark and have been a poor pick for soccer betting lately.

They did find a spark in their last match, though, in the form of substitute winger Niels Nkounkou. Nkounkou was on the pitch for less than 20 minutes but he was involved in both goals that powered Frankfurt to a 2-1 comeback victory over Borussia Monchengladbach. Both Aurelio Buta and Robin Koch scored in stoppage time off of Nkounkou crosses. Despite their relatively poor form, Frankfurt did manage a shock 5-1 win over Bayern Munich last month as well.

The sense is that Eintracht Frankfurt aren’t done in the transfer market yet. They’ve been exploring a deal for Rennes forward Arnaud Kalimuendo and they need reinforcements, given three key players are away at the Africa Cup of Nations this month. That includes leading scorer Omar Marmoush and midfielders Ellyes Skhiri and Fares Chaibi. Plus, Philipp Max is out injured and Koch is day-to-day.

Match Analysis & Odds

Our RB Leipzig vs. Eintracht Frankfurt analysis notes that Frankfurt’s AFCON absentees have accounted for 10 of their 26 goals this season. Dino Toppmoller will have to do a lot of tinkering with his lineup over the next few weeks to keep Frankfurt afloat in the meantime. Leipzig could take advantage come Saturday and are currently -225 home favorites. Leipzig -1, -1.5 comes in at -105 odds as Openda looks to get on the scoresheet for the 12th time this season.

Frankfurt have never won at Red Bull Arena and hold a 0-3-4 record there. The visitors are +600 underdogs for this one but Eintracht Frankfurt +1, +1.5 comes in at -115 odds. Draws have been relatively common in this fixture and another one displays +400 odds here. Leipzig are currently nine points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen and hold title ambitions so this is an important match for them.

Although both teams have scored in each of Leipzig’s last six matches, under 3, 3.5 goals sit at -125 odds. While Leipzig do have some defensive injuries, they’ve only got one player away at AFCON and have the stronger side.
