CFL Week 17 Odds Preview: Grey Cup Rematch Headlines a Week of Toss-Ups
Three of Four Week 17 Games are Lined Tightly
Argonauts are Rare Dogs in Rematch With Bombers
The Toronto Argonauts and Winnipeg Blue Bombers meet for the first time since the Grey Cup. Like this title game, the CFL Week 17 odds favor Winnipeg even if Toronto did win the game.
The Argos are thus underdogs for the first time this season and by 2.5 points. And the 50.5 points is the highest total this week. This headlines a week of close matchups save for one.
CFL Week 16 Review: The Streak is Over
As far as betting results were concerned for Week 16, it was a mix-up. The totals split with two games going ‘over’ and two going ‘under’.
Three of the four favorites won on the moneyline, and two covered. Edmonton’s two-game winning streak at home got snapped by BC as the Elks also failed to cover. They now go on bye and get an extra tough assignment against Toronto for Week 18.
But the one and only underdog who emerged victorious were the Redblacks. Ottawa upset Saskatchewan 36-28 despite being 2.5-point underdogs. Their game also went over the total and was the second-highest scoring among CFL scores for Week 16.
🏈 Toronto Argonauts vs Winnipeg Blue Bombers 🏈
Day/Time:
Record: Argonauts (12-1)/Blue Bombers (10-4)
Location: IG Field, Winnipeg, MB
Streaming: CFL+, CBS Sports Network
If you’re going to watch one game on the CFL schedule, it better be this one. This is the heavyweight rematch that is nearly one year in the making. Winnipeg returns to IG Field as the favorites.
But Toronto has covered in four of their last five meetings and is also 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games. The total is high because eight of these teams’ previous 10 games against each other have gone over.
🏈 Saskatchewan Roughriders vs BC Lions 🏈
Day/Time:
Record: Roughriders (6-8)/Lions (10-4)
Location: BC Place, Vancouver, BC
The Lions clinched a playoff spot by beating Edmonton. It also tied it with Winnipeg for the top spot in the West per the CFL standings. Now, the Lions are favored by 9.5 over Saskatchewan, which just lost to Ottawa.
BC is the shortest favorite of Week 17 but is just 0-3-1 ATS when favored by nine or more points. In its last three meetings with BC, Saskatchewan has also covered or pushed (2-0-1).
🏈 Montreal Alouettes vs Ottawa Redblacks 🏈
Day/Time:
Record: Alouettes (7-7)/Redblacks (4-10)
Location: TD Place Stadium, Ottawa, ON
Ottawa snapped a seven-game skid but still faces an uphill battle per the CFL Week 17 odds. Montreal rolls into town, having won the last five matchups at the TD Place Stadium. Another line to keep an eye on is the total. Set at 47.5, it is an identical total with the other games outside of Toronto-Winnipeg.
But both these teams score a lot or get scored on a lot. The total has gone over in nine of Ottawa’s last 10 games and in four of its last five home games.
🏈 Calgary Stampeders vs Hamilton Tiger-Cats 🏈
Day/Time:
Record: Stampeders (4-10)/Tiger-Cats (6-8)
Location: Tim Hortons Field, Hamilton, ON
Calgary and Hamilton were once mighty teams. But injuries, particularly to their quarterbacks, and an overall decline have made them barely playoff-eligible.
In this matchup, the CFL Week 17 odds see Hamilton favored by just 1.5 points. Calgary has won seven of its last 10 games against Hamilton but just two of its last five. The Tiger-Cats also covered on four of these games.
