CFL Week 13 Odds Preview: Labor Day Classic Promises Something Nuts

Watch This, Americans; This is Better Than Thanksgiving

Three of Four Visitors Favored This Weekend

The NFL has its Thanksgiving Day. And the CFL has the Labor Day Classic. But unlike the former, which typically features a dud team or two (*cough* Detroit *cough*), the Labor Day Classic is all about rivalries. Yes, even if the CFL Week 13 odds expect some mismatches, you can never fully trust these lines. Expect something crazy to happen one way or the other.

CFL Week 12 Review: Edmonton Won!

But first, to the biggest CFL score of the season: Edmonton *bleep*ing won at home! Who cares about a championship? This is more monumental. The Elks, who had not won a home game since October 12, 2019, upset the Ottawa Redblacks to snap their losing skid at 22 games. The win was also Edmonton’s second straight this 2023.

And that’s not all. Even with just two wins, Edmonton is within striking distance of the playoffs. I know, it only happens in the CFL. But the Elks now head to the Labor Day Classic with plenty at stake as they meet their archnemeses, the Calgary Stampeders, in a game that could decide who ultimately gets the final playoff spot.

Edmonton also improved to 5-6 against the spread (ATS) and is 3-0 in its last three games. Dont look now, but the Elks are suddenly a bettable team. And as it climbs the CFL standings, it makes this season more intriguing.

🏈 B.C. Lions vs Montreal Alouettes 🏈

Day/Time:
Record: Lions (7-4)/Alouettes (6-4)
Location: Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Montreal
Streaming: CFL+, CBS Sports Network

Montreal hosts B.C. in a rematch of their classic from Week 5. The CFL Week 13 odds favor B.C. by 3.5 points here, which is down from 4.5 given the team’s recent upset. The Lions got lit up by Hamilton and is now just 2-4 ATS in their last six games. The Alouettes, on the other hand, are 1-4 as underdogs. But that only makes their potential upset here more exhilarating. The 45.5-point total was the lowest this weekend, but the public quickly bet that up to 47.5

🏈 Blue Bombers vs Roughriders 🏈

Day/Time:
Record: Blue Bombers (9-2)/Roughriders (5-5)
Location: Mosaic Stadium, Regina

The Roughriders host their beloved neighbours, the Blue Bombers as 7.5-point underdogs this Sunday. It hasn’t been much of a rivalry though as Winnipeg has consistently kicked Saskatchewan’s butt – five straight wins and 10-3 ATS in the last 13 games. The Bombers are also 6-2 ATS when favored by eight points or fewer. Saskatchewan is down to their quarterback, Jake Dolegala could get another shot to shine for the green team.

🏈 Toronto Argonauts vs Hamilton Tiger-Cats 🏈

Day/Time:
Record: Argonauts (8-1)/Tiger-Cats (4-6)
Location: Tim Hortons Field, Hamilton

On to the actual Labor Day, we have something similar to the Winnipeg-Saskatchewan “rivalry” as Toronto has lorded over Hamilton. The Argonauts are the champs and are 5-1 in their last six meetings with Hamilton. The “Tabbies” are coming off a big upset over the Lions so that could inspire them to pull off this one. At 8.5 points, Hamilton is the biggest underdog and the total of 50 is the largest per the CFL Week 13 odds.

🏈 Edmonton Elks vs Calgary Stampeders 🏈

Day/Time:
Record: Elks (2-9)/Stampeders (3-8)
Location: McMahon Stadium, Calgary

This is the meat of the CFL schedule. Can the Elks make it three straight wins? Despite being five-point underdogs, Edmonton might be the better bet here as Calgary has stunk it up as of late: just one win in its last six games. The Stampeders have five straight wins over the Elks. But do you trust that against a team that just snapped a historic skid?
