CFL Week 12 Odds Preview: Is This Finally Edmonton’s Week?

All Eyes On Elks as Home Teams Could Sweep Week 12

Elks are the Only Home Underdogs This Week

Could this finally be the week Edmonton snaps its historic 21-game losing streak at home? Nay, say the oddsmakers. The other three hosts are sizable favorites on the CFL Week 12 odds. But the Elks are three-point underdogs against the not-so-good Ottawa Redblacks. Edmonton last got destroyed 27-0 in their own building. But even the worst things end eventually. And the Elks look to win for the first time in 1,415 days.

CFL Week 11 Review: Underdogs Feast

Speaking of underdogs, the Elks emerged victorious as one last week. Edmonton upset Hamilton on the road as a +185 dog (+5) and got its first win of the season. It’s not the only underdog to win as Saskatchewan pulled off the week’s largest upset as it stunned B.C. as a +385 underdog (+10.5).

Joining Edmonton and Saskatchewan are Calgary and Ottawa. Both lost by a point each but covered their respective spreads. This means all four underdogs covered the spread for Week 11. The week proved that you can never count out any CFL teams regardless of the odds.

This midway point of the 2023 CFL schedule is also notable for the injuries to starting quarterbacks. Nearly every team including Winnipeg, Hamilton, and Saskatchewan have injured starters while Chad Kelly and Vernon Adams Jr. are banged up for Toronto and B.C., respectively. This will make for an interesting latter-half of the season as far as the betting lines are concerned.

Winnipeg gutted out a 19-18 victory over Calgary last week. The team just missed covering the 1.5-point spread. But the win means that Winnipeg now has the most victories this season. Dru Brown leads the heavily favored (-8.5) team against Montreal, which has won four of its last five games. The “Als” are also 4-2 against the spread (ATS) in its last six trips to IG Field.

🏈 Stampeders vs Argonauts 🏈

Record: Stampeders (3-7) vs Argonauts (7-1)
Day/Time:
Location: BMO Field, TorontBMO Field, Toronto

The Stampeders have lost four of its last five games and visit the Argonauts, who have won nine of its last 10 (including the Grey Cup). As such, Toronto is favored by 9.5 points per the CFL Week 12 odds. Quarterback Chad Kelly could start for Toronto and the team is unbeaten when he plays a whole game this season. The total here is also the largest for the week at 51 points. It has gone over in four of the last six games in TO.

🏈 Tiger-Cats vs Lions 🏈

Record: Tiger-Cats (3-6) vs Lions (7-3)
Day/Time:
Location: B.C. Place, Vancouver

A slow start doomed the Lions against the Roughriders last week. Adams threw for 455 yards in what was arguably the best performance for a losing team. Still, the CFL Week 12 odds peg the Lions as this week’s biggest favorites at -10. That’s because the Tiger-Cats, +405 on the moneyline, handed the Elks their first win last week. Hamilton rapidly falls on the CFL standings.

🏈 Redblacks vs Elks 🏈

Record: Redblacks (3-5) vs Elks (1-9)
Day/Time:
Location: The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton

This is it. This is the game where Edmonton snaps its embarrassing losing streak at home… or not. If anything, Edmonton could cover its spread at +3. The Elks are surprisingly 4-2 ATS in their last six games. And Ottawa has now dropped four straight games (1-3 ATS). The total of 45.5 is also the lowest of the week as Edmonton averages just 15.8 points per game.
