Leroy Sane beat Andriy Lunin to his near post to equalize and Harry Kane converted a penalty. Real Madrid didn’t look threatening for the rest of the match but still earned a late penalty. Vini Jr. equalized and Los Blancos took a 2-2 draw back to Madrid.

The pregame Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich odds listed a draw at +285 odds and it was the second straight head-to-head draw. Real Madrid have only lost one of their last eight 90-minute UCL fixtures vs. Bayern Munich. Real Madrid have also advanced on the last three occasions they’ve met in the Champions League knockout stage.

Real Madrid Clinch La Liga Title

With Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory over Cadiz and Barcelona’s 4-2 loss to Girona, Real clinched the 2023-24 La Liga title on Saturday. Brahim Diaz got the party started with a stunning right-footed finish. In the second half, Jude Bellingham scored right after coming on as a substitute and Joselu added a third. Thibaut Courtois made his first start in goal for Real Madrid since tearing his ACL. Now, Real can put all of their focus on the Champions League, which they’ve won a record 14 times.

Real Madrid’s UCL journey this season started in Group C and they finished first in the Champions League standings. With a perfect group stage record, Real took on RB Leipzig in the Round of 16 and it wasn’t necessarily smooth sailing. After a fortunate 1-0 victory in the first leg, Real drew 1-1 at the Bernabeu to advance. In the Quarters, Real took on defending champions Manchester City and managed two draws. In penalty kicks, goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was the hero, as Real advanced to a fourth straight Semifinal.

Los Blancos can get results in the UCL even when they’re not remotely on the front foot. With the vast UCL experience of Nacho, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos, Real have a chance to get their 15th European Cup come June. Vini Jr. ranks joint-second in the competition with nine goal contributions and Bellingham and Rodrygo aren’t far behind. They’ve got eight and seven, respectively.

Bayern Injury Issues Compound

Bayern Munich have some injury issues heading into Wednesday’s Champions League Semifinal vs. Real Madrid. Both Eric Dier and Raphael Guerreiro departed early from Bayern’s 3-1 loss at Stuttgart. While Dier could play on Wednesday after receiving a nasty facial cut, Guerreiro will miss out with an ankle injury. Thomas Tuchel needs Dier with fellow center backs Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano working their way back to fitness from injuries of their own. Kingsley Coman and Sacha Boey are also set to miss out here.

Dier’s partner in defense Kim Min-jae made two critical errors on Real Madrid’s goals last weekend. He hasn’t quite found his footing since leaving Napoli for Munich but he may have a chance to redeem himself this week. While Bayern’s 11-year Bundesliga title streak is over, their  UCL scores have been par for the course.

They went unbeaten in a difficult group, with Manchester United, Galatasaray, and FC Copenhagen. Then, Bayern defeated Lazio 3-1 in the Round of 16, on aggregate. Tuchel’s men also took down an upstart Arsenal side in the Quarter-Final by a 3-2 scoreline. Harry Kane scored Bayern’s only goal vs. Stuttgart on Saturday and he’s also joint-leader in goals in the UCL and sole leader in goal contributions, with 11.
