UCL Round of 16, Leg 2: Real Sociedad vs PSG Odds

Parisians Hold Two Goal Advantage

Sociedad Winless in Last Four at Home

There may be trouble brewing in Paris. Luis Enrique has benched Kylian Mbappe early in each of PSG’s last two matches, which both finished in draws. PSG need to avoid a two-goal defeat or more on Tuesday when they head to Real Sociedad to automatically qualify for the Champions League Quarter-Final. Sociedad have also struggled as of late and haven’t won any of their last four home games. We’ll see who’s favored to come out on top in Tuesday’s round of 16 second leg as we take a look at the Real Sociedad vs PSG odds.

Sociedad vs PSG Head-to-Head

This will be just the second meeting between Real Sociedad and PSG. On Valentine’s Day, PSG charmed their home fans by grabbing a 2-0 victory in the first leg. In the second half, Kylian Mbappe and Bradley Barcola got on the scoresheet and PSG didn’t concede a single shot on target. The Real Sociedad vs PSG odds listed the Parisians as -145 pregame favorites.

Real Sociedad Stumbling at Inopportune Time

Real Sociedad are in the midst of their worst stretch of the season thus far. La Real have lost four of their last six 90-minute matches and have been a poor recent soccer betting pick. Plus, they fell in penalties last Tuesday in the Copa del Rey Quarter-Final to Mallorca. Sociedad had a golden opportunity to qualify for an all-Basque Copa del Rey final but couldn’t get the job done at home. On Saturday afternoon, Real Sociedad also fell 3-2 to Sevilla in a La Liga match.

Youssef En-Nesyri scored a first half brace for Sevilla and Andre Silva got a goal back for La Real on a penalty. However, Sergio Ramos put the match out of reach for Sociedad with a header and Sociedad settled for a Brais Mendez consolation goal. Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro is joint-leader in the Champions League stats, with four clean sheets, but La Real have conceded in each of their last six games, in all competitions.

Sociedad are currently in seventh place in La Liga, well outside of the top four. Imanol Alguacil did rest some of his key players on Saturday in preparation for the UCL game. Mikel Merino, Mikel Oyarzabal, Take Kubo, Hamari Traore and Robin Le Normand should all be good to go on Tuesday. However, Ander Barrenetxea, Aihen Muñoz and Carlos Fernandez are all out for this match. Meanwhile, defender Aritz Elustondo is considered doubtful.

Mbappe Benched by Enrique

Luis Enrique subbed off Kylian Mbappe at the beginning of the second half of PSG’s scoreless draw at Monaco on Friday. Mbappe proceeded to watch the rest of the match from the stands. Enrique explained he wanted to get his team used to playing without the superstar, who has scored 32 goals in all competitions this season. With Mbappe rumored to be leaving the club once again, Enrique could be rewarding those players who are committed to staying.

In PSG’s biggest matches, like this one, expect Enrique to utilize Mbappe. In Ligue 1, PSG may have drawn their last two matches but they still have a healthy lead. Currently, the Champions League betting odds price the Parisians at +1200 to win their first UCL title. They’ve got a long way to go but should advance from this tie, barring disaster.

Enrique does have injury concerns for a few of his key defenders. All of Danilo Pereira, Marquinhos and Milan Skriniar could miss Tuesday’s match. Lucas Beraldo and Nordi Mukiele started in the heart of defense on Friday and managed to keep a clean sheet in the scoreless draw vs. Monaco. That was more due to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s heroics in goal, though.

Sociedad vs PSG Match Analysis & Odds

Given their healthy two goal advantage heading into this second leg, Paris Saint-Germain are -1400 favorites to go through. Real Sociedad show +700 odds to overcome their deficit but only seven of their wins all season have been by a multi-goal margin. Mbappe may have a point to prove to Enrique about how much his team needs him here.

The forward scored in the reverse fixture and it wouldn’t at all be surprising to see him get on the scoresheet here. The Real Sociedad vs PSG odds do price La Real as slight favorites for this one. Still, Sociedad have less than an implied 50 percent chance to win the match, at +155 odds. PSG are +170 underdogs but haven’t lost a match since November. Despite the two recent draws, PSG are on a 20 game unbeaten streak.

A draw, which only serves PSG, sits at +245 odds. Bettors can also take Real Sociedad pk at -115 odds and PSG pk at -105. Under 2.5 goals come in at -120 as PSG will try to keep another clean sheet vs. Sociedad. Notably, the Parisians have only conceded two goals in their last five games overall.
