James Maddison Next Club Odds: Why Tottenham is Perfect Fit

Who, Where, & What's the Impact?

After being confirmed by Fabrizio Romano last week, James Maddison’s next club is officially Tottenham Hotspurs! The English midfielder had a successful personal career at Leicester City before getting relegated last season. He will join the ranks of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son as crucial attacking players for Ange Postecoglou.

While James Maddison’s next club is Tottenham, they were not the only Premier League gunning for his signature! Newcastle were leading the race for most of the end of the season before pulling out. Manchester City inquired about him at the beginning of the season, and Liverpool and United even submitted bids.

Here are the betting odds for each club before he signed with Tottenham

As you can see, Newcastle had the top odds because there was an agreement between the player and the club. However, they did not need Leicester City’s valuation for the midfield maestro.

Why Tottenham as James Madison’s Next Club?

Tottenham and Postecoglou are the perfect fit to be James Madison’s next club. Maddison proved he could compete with the best players the Premier League has to offer while playing in a team that won just nine games all season and conceded a staggering 68 goals.

Maddison is a ready-made Premier League star. He will walk into the starting XI at Spurs and instantly improve the team – something he did throughout his time with Leicester, who always looked like a better team when he was on the side. Last season, Leicester scored 0.8 goals per game in the ten league games Maddison did not start, but that Leicester City stat almost doubled to 1.5 goals per game when he was in the starting lineup.

He was the leading man for his old club, and everything went through him, as can be shown by the involvement of Leicester players in their open-play shot-ending sequences in Premier League games last season. Maddison was involved in at least 16 more such sequences than any other teammate.

He was feeding off scraps at times, but that is unlikely to be the case under Postecoglou, who sends his side out to attack from the outset.

The play at Tottenham was dire last season, with Spurs sitting deep for long periods and then looking to counter, with Kane heavily relied upon to create chances and then put them away himself. With Maddison there, he won’t need to worry about that.

We will have to wait and see if Tottenham is the perfect fit to be James Madison’s next club. But if stats are anything to go by, Tottenham and Maddison will be the ideal match.
