Chelsea’s Summer clear out continued as Mason Mount sealed a transfer to Manchester United late last week. Mount joined fellow midfielders N’Golo Kante, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic out of the exit door. He leaves Chelsea as a Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup winner. Mount was a key player for Chelsea under Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel but had an injury-ridden 2022-23 campaign. 2022-23 Season and Transfer

Manchester United have a solid midfield trio of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen already. With a £60m offer, Manchester United managed to tempt Chelsea into selling Mount, who looked like a franchise cornerstone just a year ago.

Mount was also linked to Bayern Munich and other German clubs for a time. Any German club was listed at +1000 odds before Mount sealed his Manchester United transfer.

Manchester United’s late-season 2022-23 English Premier League scores were good enough to bring them back to the Champions League. They won their last four matches and had the joint-third best defensive record in the league.
Erik ten Hag will look to build on the club’s EFL Cup success last season and deliver more silverware. He may have a limited budget to work with after the Mount transfer unless more exits follow.
David de Gea has left the club as a free agent and midfielder Fred is rumored to be leaving the club as well. Since the Mason Mount next club odds have closed, a new shot stopper will be Erik ten Hag’s priority.
Inter Milan’s Andre Onana and Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow have been discussed as two potential options. However, United may have to ward off competition from Saudi Arabia to seal Onana’s signature.
