Premier League Clubs Meet in Third Round

FA Cup Action Kicks off 2024

The Premier League may be on a rare Winter break, but that doesn’t mean EPL clubs aren’t in action over the next few weeks. On Thursday, Crystal Palace host Everton in a rare FA Cup third round matchup between two Premier League teams. Only four of the 32 matchups feature two Premier League sides and Everton head to London with a road win vs. Crystal Palace already under their belt this season. However, Everton have lost their last three matches heading into 2024. As both sides look to kick off 2024 on the right note, we’ll take a look at the Crystal Palace vs Everton FA Cup odds.

Head-to-Head

Crystal Palace and Everton’s last match on the FA Cup schedule was back in March 2022, as CPFC grabbed a 4-0 win in the Quarter-finals. All-time, Everton have progressed in four of their six FA Cup ties vs. Crystal Palace. The Toffees are also unbeaten in the last four meetings of this fixture, including November’s 3-2 road victory. Idrissa Gueye scored an 86th minute winner for Everton in London. The series is tied in the last five meetings at Selhurst Park, in all competitions, with two wins each and a draw.

Crystal Palace End Winless Run

Crystal Palace came away with a 3-1 win over Brentford in a London Derby to close out 2023. Brentford took the lead within two minutes but Palace fought back and Michael Olise scored his first goal of the night just 12 minutes later. Eberechi Eze got on the scoresheet before halftime as the Eagles took a 2-1 lead. Olise then completed his brace in the second half as Roy Hodgson’s side broke an eight-game winless run in the Premier League.

Now, the Crystal Palace vs. Everton FA Cup Odds list Palace as +160 favorites for Thursday’s match. Both Olise and Eze have missed time this season but they’re healthy now and improve Crystal Palace each time they’re in the starting XI. Olise has scored three goals in his last two games and leads Palace with 0.66 goals per 90 minutes in the Premier League. Odsonne Edouard missed a couple of games with knee injury but Palace’s leading scorer is now available for selection. Meanwhile, winger Jordan Ayew leads the team with seven EPL goal contributions.

Palace are likely destined to be a lower-half side in the Premier League this season but did reach the FA Cup final in 2016. The England Cup odds list Palace as +6600 longshots to win their first-ever FA Cup trophy in 2024. Bettors should be aware that starting keeper Sam Johnstone has missed some time with a leg injury and is doubtful here. Defender Joel Ward is out, along with midfielder Cheick Doucoure.

Everton Concerned With EPL Survival

December was a month of streaks for Everton. Following their 10-point deduction in the Premier League for breaches of Financial Fair Play, the Toffees opened up the month with four straight shutout victories. Following a loss in penalty kicks in the EFL Cup Quarter-finals to Fulham, Everton lost three EPL matches in a row to close out 2023. Sean Dyche is tasked with keeping Everton afloat in the Premier League with the deduction and rest assured the league will be his priority. Especially since Everton finished 2023 just one point outside of the relegation zone.

So, Everton fans can’t be too upset if the Toffees crash out of the FA Cup early. Still, the soccer betting lines do give Everton an implied 36.4 percent chance to win on Thursday. Defense has been a problem for Everton lately, as they’ve conceded eight goals in their last three games. They have, however, played quite well away from Goodison Park this season. They’ve lost just four road games out of 12, in all competitions.

Some key Everton players may be out for this one, including Idrissa Gueye, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ashley Young. Dele Alli is still yet to play for Everton this season but the midfielder is apparently closing in on a return.

Match Analysis & Odds

At the moment, the Crystal Palace vs. Everton FA Cup odds imply this could be one of the closest matches of the round. CPFC show +160 moneyline odds, Everton come in at +175 and a draw displays +220 odds. In the event of a draw, there will be a replay round at Goodison Park. Palace don’t have another match scheduled for 16 days after this, so they can afford to go all out here.

Meanwhile, Everton’s next match is January 14th vs. Aston Villa so they have quite a long break as well. Still, they have more reason to be cautious in their approach to this match. In this pick’em, Palace pk sits at -120 odds and Everton pk is priced at -110. Everton do take a four-game unbeaten streak vs. Crystal Palace into this match but that is at serious risk here.

Bettors can find over 2, 2.5 goals at -120 odds and both sides are among the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season. Abdoulaye Doucoure, who’s doubtful for this match, leads Everton with six EPL goals. Odsonne Edouard could return to the Palace XI for this one, which would boost Hodgson’s attack.
