Stuttgart Keep Winning

Stuttgart got their third victory in a row on Saturday, when they took down Werder Bremen, 2-0. Deniz Undav and Serhou Guirassy are quickly becoming one of the best attacking duos in the Bundesliga. Undav opened the scoring as he poached a rebound, and Guirassy converted a late penalty. Along with grabbing wins vs. the likes of Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, and SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga, Stuttgart hasn’t yet conceded a goal in the DFB-Pokal.

In August’s DFB-Pokal first round, Stuttgart managed to pick up a 4-0 win over Balingen. Four different players managed to get on the scoresheet in that match. On Halloween, Undav scored the game’s only goal as Stuttgart knocked out Union Berlin in the second round. Stuttgart has been one of the biggest surprises for soccer betting this season. They were nearly relegated last season and have bounced back wonderfully.

Guirassy already has 17 goals this season in all competitions. Meanwhile, Undav has added nine of his own. Along with their solid play in the DFB-Pokal, Stuttgart is in third place in the Bundesliga and is pushing for a Champions League spot. Bettors can expect starting defender Hiroki Ito to miss this one.

Dortmund Grind Out Draw

Borussia Dortmund have joined Bayern Munich as the only team to take a point off of Bayer Leverkusen this season. On Sunday, Dortmund took an early lead at the BayArena as Julian Ryerson put them ahead. Leverkusen had a goal called back for offside, and Patrik Schick eventually assisted Victor Boniface for the game-tying goal.

With the draw, Dortmund have now won just one of their last five Bundesliga matches. Still, they’ve proven they can compete with anyone this season, as shown by their successful Champions League group stage campaign. Not too many soccer predictions had them advancing out of the “Group of Death.” However, they clinched a round of 16 spots with one game to spare in a group with PSG, Newcastle United, and AC Milan.

Gregor Kobel has been a standout in goal for BVB this season, while Dortmund’s scoring has been balanced. Julian Brandt, Donyell Malen, Niclas Fullkrug, and Marco Reus all have 5+ goals, in all competitions. So far in the DFB-Pokal, Dortmund have defeated Schott Mainz 6-1 and beat Hoffenheim 1-0. Ramy Bensebaini, Salih Ozcan, and Niklas Sule all have an illness and are questionable for Wednesday’s match.

Match Analysis & Odds

This is expected to be one of the closest matches of the round. The VfB Stuttgart – Borussia Dortmund stats show that nine of the last ten meetings have finished with three or more goals. Stuttgart will be confident following November’s win over Dortmund, and they’re +135 favorites for this one. Dortmund’s odds aren’t far behind, at +160.

Meanwhile, Stuttgart pk sits at -120 odds, and Dortmund pk comes in at -110. This is Stuttgart’s only shot at winning a cup competition this season, while Dortmund while undoubtedly prioritizes the Champions League more. Playing at home should also be a big boost for Stuttgart. Note that extra time and penalties will be played in the event of a draw.

A draw is priced at +280 odds for this one, and Stuttgart are unbeaten in the last two matches vs. Dortmund at home. Over and under 3, 3.5 goals both show -115 odds for Wednesday’s DFB-Pokal match of the week.
