Open 2023 Winner Betting Odds: Harman Defies Price

Harman Scores Huge Upset

The Open 2023 winner betting odds paid out +12,000 for Brian Harman to win the Open Championship last week.

It was one of the biggest upsets in recent history, only rivaled by Phil Mickelson’s 2021 PGA Championship win.

It was the final major on the golf schedule this year, but betting on golf is still available for the upcoming FedEx Cup playoffs, where Harman will be playing.

A Valuable Win

Harman has always shown plenty of ability, but to win the Open Championship by six strokes is quite incredible.

The left-handed player held his nerve on the final day in terrible conditions, which proved that he has the class to win more golf tournaments.

He had been struggling with his putting, but he was a demon on the greens at Holyoake, which proved the difference.

“Yeah, I found this — it’s a silly looking mirror where it’s got like a little better release pattern,” Harman said.

“I was just kind of cutting my putts too much. I spent a lot of time just feeling the ball, almost hitting like a baby draw with my putter, and it’s been really, really good the last month or so.”

The win rockets Harman up the FedEx Cup leaderboard and also the Ryder Cup rankings. He’s now essentially guaranteed a spot on Team USA, so the win was valuable in more ways than one.

He’s much better than his Open 2023 winner betting odds suggests, and he won’t pay +12,000 to win another golf tournament ever again.

Kim Best of the Rest

Tom Kim, a Korean-born professional, shines brightly among the stars on the PGA Tour, showcasing his maturity with a commendable T2 finish.

Closing with an impressive -4 score on Sunday, he joined the ranks of talented players like Jon Rahm and Jason Day, who trailed Harman by six strokes.

Having already secured two victories on the PGA Tour in 2022, claiming wins at the Wyndham Championship and Shriners Children’s Open, Kim proved his mettle once more at the Open Championship, achieving his second top-10 finish in 2023.

Notably, he secured a commendable T8 finish at the U.S. Open and a respectable T16 finish at the Masters in April, demonstrating consistent quality throughout the season.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Kim, as he encountered pain in his injured right ankle during the tournament. Despite considering withdrawal after the second and third rounds, he persevered and ultimately pushed through, a decision he’s grateful for now.

“I was thinking about pulling out after my second round and the third round,” Kim said. “But I’m kind of glad I didn’t.”

Looking ahead, Kim’s performance promises to be worth watching in the upcoming months. With potential value for bettors, he stands as an exciting prospect to follow beyond the Open Championship.

Rahm Back to His Best

Jon Rahm finished T2 and he almost justified his Open 2023 winner betting odds, which were +1000 in pre-tournament markets.

The Spaniard, who won the 2023 Masters, hadn’t been playing his best golf before the Open Championship, but he fired up with a -6 third round, which put him back into contention.

He was never going to run down Harman, but finishing tied for second is a good result for the former world number one.

He enters the FedEx Cup playoffs with a full head of steam, and despite his dominance on the course this year, we feel like he’s still an underrated player.

There could be value at the sportsbook with Rahm in the coming months.
