PGA BMW Championship: Rahm Eyes FedEx Cup Lead

The Penultimate PGA Tour Tournament

The PGA BMW Championship features 50 of the best PGA Tour players, and only 30 make it to East Lake next week.

Golf odds are out and it’s Rory McIlroy attracting the most attention. However, Jon Rahm has the FedEx Cup lead, and he could top the PGA leaderboard on Sunday.

The BMW Championship is always one of the must-see tournaments of the year and there is excellent value at the sportsbook.

Rahm to Rampage Field

With Rahm’s victory in the 2020 PGA BMW Championship, he has better experience than most players in this field.

As a standout among the world’s top players, Rahm boasts six wins since that career-defining victory, including the 2023 Masters. He has been one of the most consistent golfers in 2023, which included a bevvy of early wins.
While his performance wasn’t peak last week, our confidence is with Rahm, who wants to keep his top FedEx Cup ranking heading into the TOUR Championship.

“The point of coming to the Playoffs is to give yourself the best chance to get to East Lake on the number one spot,” Rahm said. “I’ve done a pretty good job so far. Hopefully, this week I can have a good performance like I did last time, earn it, clinch it, and give myself the best shot for the win. It’s been a great year so far, so hopefully, I can end it off the way I started it.”.

Although he’s yet to clinch the FedEx Cup, Rahm has come close. Winning this week at juicy odds of +850 is a possibility, and he’s simply too good to ignore. Much like his odds for the 2024 PGA Championship, bettors should climb in.

Kim to Win

We expected Tom Kim to be much shorter than +3500 with bookmakers. He’s one of the shining lights on the PGA Tour, and bookmakers might have missed a trick.

It’s truly astonishing that Kim is just 21 years old. His performance on the course surpasses his age, and he’s already accomplished two PGA Tour wins.

Despite his youth, the talented South Korean secured a T2 finish at the recent Open Championship, followed by an impressive performance last week.

While his Sunday performance at the St. Jude Championship wasn’t stellar, his play over the first three days was good enough to suggest he’ll be competitive at the PGA BMW Championship.

With only 49 other players in the field, we would have priced Kim much shorter. Take the +3500 and enjoy the value.

Riding the Hot Golfer

There is no hotter golfer than Lucas Glover, who is shooting for three consecutive PGA Tour victories.
The seasoned golfer has successfully recaptured his prime form, largely attributed to his switch in putters, a decision that is clearly paying dividends.

He noticed Adam Scott’s putting recently, and subsequently adopted the exact same putter. It has paid off, and it could continue to pay off this week.

Glover’s victory over Patrick Cantlay in a playoff last week showcased not only his skill but also his resilience and determination, despite a few tense moments.

Securing wins in three consecutive weeks is a formidable feat, particularly when facing off against some of the world’s top golfers, but discounting a player on a hot streak is unwise.

Glover could quickly become a household name again, and we’re happy to back him at +4000. We would also include him top 20 and top 20 markets at a value price.

Spieth to Lead Round 1

Jordan Spieth had an excellent opening round at the St. Jude Championship, so we’re picking him to start fast again.

The American has struggled to produce the goods on the weekend, but bettors needn’t worry with first round leader markets.

Spieth is a +2800 chance to lead the field of 50 after Thursday, which is a terrific price considering how hot he gets early in tournaments. Scottie Scheffler is the current +1400 favorite, but there is much better value with Spieth.
