Surging Scheffler Top Players Champ Pick

2024 PGA Players Championship

Scottie Scheffler is all the rage ahead of the 2024 PGA Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass this week.

It’s one of the biggest PGA golf tournament fixtures of the year, where all the best golf players embark on the unofficial fifth major.

Looking to upset Scheffler are the likes of Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, and Patrick Cantlay.

Putter Change Key for Scheffler

It was only a matter of time before Scheffler changed his putter, and it had an immediate impact last week.

The world number one continued his trend of winning golf tournaments in March and April by taking out the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

His putting was excellent, and he could easily win consecutive tournaments at the 2024 PGA Players Championship this week.

The American is the firm favorite at +475 with golf odds, which is very short. However, he’s the best player coming into the tournament, and we can’t leave him out of our golf selections.

If Scheffler is anywhere near the top of the leaderboard heading into the weekend, he should pile on the pressure and overwhelm the opposition on Sunday.

Take Scheffler at +475 before those odds shorten.

McIlroy Needs Bounce Back

We’re not sure what happened to McIlroy last week, but he played terribly on Sunday.

The Northern Irishman got +4 in the final round at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and his PGA golf scores need to improve.

It has been a tough start to the year on the PGA Tour for McIlroy, who has failed to finish better than T21 in his last three PGA Tour tournaments.

He finished T66 at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, so something isn’t clicking for the former world number one. However, playing world class golf is never too far away for the 34-year-old.

He’s on the second line of 2024 PGA Players Championship odds at +1200, so he’s being respected. Bettors get a fair price for McIlroy, who typically plays well at TPC Sawgrass.

Zalatoris Fits the Mold

Many past Players champions have been similar to Will Zalatoris. He’s yet to win a major tournament, and he could be the new Rickie Fowler.

Despite suffering injuries throughout his career, likely due to his wildly aggressive swing, Zalatoris has played good golf over the last few weeks.

He is a good chance of winning at least once in 2024, and we fancy his chances this week at Sawgrass, and we’re not alone.

Zalatoris has plenty of betting support at +2100, and many believe he could be the next young superstar to win the Players Championship.

We’re happy to back him consistently until he wins.

Matsuyama Back to His Best

It’s great to see Hideki Matsuyama back to his best, which includes a win at the Genesis Open.

The Japanese star, who is a former Masters winner, followed it up with a T12 finish last week, so he’s in good form.

The 32-year-old would have finished a lot closer, but like McIlroy, closed his tournament with a +4 round on Sunday.

With more experience than most players in the field, Matsuyama has every chance to win at juicy odds of +3000 with 2024 PGA Players Championship odds.

The nine-time PGA Tour winner has been well-supported at the odds, and he could firm throughout the week.

We’re happy to include him with tournament winner and top 10 betting markets.

Big Odds for Lee

Min Woo Lee is a player capable of winning the Players Championship, and bettors get generous odds from the sportsbook.

The Australian is a +5000 chance to win at Sawgrass, and although winning on the PGA Tour is much harder than winning on the DP World Tour, Lee has shown enough to suggest he can.

The 25-year-old from Perth is a three-time European winner, including the 2023 Australian PGA Championship. He finished T5 at the U.S. Open last year, which is the better form guide.

He’s a rough pick, but the odds are too good to pass up. He’s a public pick, so the odds could firm closer to tee off.
