Aaron Nola Stats: Phillies Ace Has Put Up Solid Numbers

Nola, a Much Better Favorite Than Underdog

The Aaron Nola stats show a pitcher who has been consistently good, but not always great for the Philadelphia Phillies. Through July 18, 2023, Nola has a career mark of 87-68 with a 3.67 ERA. He’s always been a good strikeout pitcher and has fanned 1,506 batters in 1,354 2/3 innings. He’s allowed 1,152 hits, and 356 walks, and hit 49 batters in his career.

Where Is Aaron Nola Now?

Aaron Nola, the longest-tenured Phillies member, is set to become a free agent once the 2024 World Series event is over, leaving the Phillies behind. Or not. Those Aaron Nola stats are surely keeping it real for their owner!

Phillies managing partner John Middleton is set on spending “stupid” money to make Nola a part of the team again. He adamantly stated, “We’re going to make a really concerted effort to re-sign him. We really like Aaron. Not just for his pitching ability, which is really good, but for the character that he brings to the clubhouse and to the dugout. He’s a really good human being to have on your team. We’re going to try really hard to sign him.” Which is a very telltale couple of things to say about someone. By the way, this World Series does not include the Phillies.

Earlier in His Career

The Aaron Nola stats got off to a good start in his rookie season in 2015. Nola started 13 games and went 6-2 with an ERA of 3.59. He struck out 68 hitters in 77 2/3 innings and allowed 74 hits.

Nola didn’t have the same magic in his second season, which was his worst statistically. Making 20 starts, Nola finished 6-9 with a 4.78 ERA. He allowed more hits than innings pitched for the only time in his career and struck out 121 in 111 innings.

Nola had a strong season in 2017, going 12-11 with a 3.54 ERA in 27 starts. While a 12-11 record doesn’t seem overly impressive, the Phillies were just 66-96 in the baseball standings that season. Nola struck out 184 hitters in 168 innings.

Memorable 2018 Season

Everything came together for him in 2018, as the Aaron Nola stats show a dominating effort. Nola was 17-6 with a 2.37 ERA and finished third in the NL Cy Young Award voting. He allowed just 149 hits in 212 1/3 innings and had 224 strikeouts. Opposing batters hit .197 against him and he made his first All-Star team. Nola was 13th in the NL MVP voting that season.

Later Career

Nola was solid in 2019, going 12-7 with a 3.87 ERA, and was 5-5 with a 3.28 in the shortened 2020 season.

The 2021 season wasn’t one of Nola’s better ones. His ERA ballooned up to 4.63, which was the highest since his second season. Nola allowed 26 home runs in 180 2/3 innings.

Things returned to normal for Nola in 2022. He had a 3.25 ERA, but the Phillies didn’t give him a lot of run support and he finished with an 11-13 record. He struck out a career-high 235 hitters in 205 innings and allowed 168 hits. The Phillies lost three 1-0 games he started during the year.

Through his first 20 starts of 2023, Nola was 9-6 with a 4.27 ERA.

Due to the length of MLB season, Nola has just five complete games in his career, as managers limit the number of pitches he throws. Nola has three career shutouts.

Betting Numbers

For those who partake in baseball betting, Nola has been a little bit overpriced in his career. The Phillies are 117-112 in the games he’s started. But since Nola is usually a favorite, the Phillies show a flat-bet loss of $1,528 when Nola starts. However, he’s been much better when he pitches as a favorite. Nola is 90-62 as a favorite, which has shown a profit of $176. But as an underdog, Nola is just 23-49, which has yielded a flat-bet loss of $1,899.
