Interleague: Minnesota Twins vs Seattle Mariners Odds Preview

Twins Looking to Extend 5-1 Road Streak, Seattle 9-9 Last 18 Games

To the public, most baseball betting cards are often predicated on starting pitching, with tonight being no different. We think we have a live dog when veteran Sonny Gray (4-3, 2.89) gets the start for the Twins (48-46) against Logan Gilbert (7-5, 3.66) for the Seattle Mariners. The M’s opened as a consensus -140 favorite, lower at some books. It appears we’re getting some early money on the Twins, so make sure to get your bets down early to get the best of the number. The total is 7.5 (under +102/-122). The first pitch is scheduled for 9:40 pm ET / 6:40 pm PT on FS1. We continue our Twins vs Mariners odds preview with a deeper look at both squads.

It’s That Time Of Year Again

We can start looking at the baseball standings and determine what our teams need to do to get in the postseason, or if this is just another year of failure that will result in clubs shopping their best prospects at the trade deadline. The Minnesota Twins have hovered right around the .500 mark for most of the season, but in the American League Central, that’s good enough for a 2.5 game lead. Minnesota has won 6 of their last 10 games to extend their lead over the Cleveland Guardians, who have dropped six of 10.

In a span of four games, Minnesota gained 3.5 games on the Guardians and two games on the Detroit Tigers (41-51). Coming off his third all-star appearance, Sonny Gray is hoping to bounce back after a horrible start against the Baltimore Orioles where the right-hander allowed six runs in six innings, in a 6-2 home loss. There is good news, Gray has pitched well against Seattle, putting up a 5-3 record to go with a sparkling 2.73 era in 14 games. Minnesota has had only one winning month this season, winning 17 of 28 in May, but have started July 8-4. Let’s continue our Twins vs Mariners odds preview by turning our attention to Seattle.

Mariners Focused On Wild Card

It’s not out of the question that the Seattle Mariners couldn’t catch the Texas Rangers for the lead in the American League West, it’s just not likely. Seattle has won 8 of their last 12 games, but still finds themselves five games out of a playoff spot with just over two months remaining. The MLB schedule served up the Detroit Tigers at home to start the second half of the season for the M’s, but Detroit took two of three making this series against Minnesota somewhat critical, at least from a standpoint of confidence.

Logan Gilbert has been on fire of late, allowing just one earned run in his last 16 innings, and eight over his last 34.1 innings (2.10 era). Seattle is just 9-9 when the righty starts, a direct reflection of the 4.17 runs of support Gilbert has averaged. Eight times in 18 starts, Gilbert has been given three runs or less, and that factors in a 13-1 win at Baltimore, on June 23rd. We conclude our Twins vs Mariner odds preview with our MLB score prediction.

Plenty Of Numbers to Shop in This One

Overall, it appears the public is interested in the total with 86% of the early money coming in on the under. That makes sense with both starters having success in 2023. There are 7’s starting to pop up, make sure if you’re on the under that you shop around – you want to get the hook because of how small of a number we’re dealing with. 82% of the overall tickets on the total are also on the under. As far as the side is concerned, there are numbers that vary with the Mariners opening as low as -122, a number that has been bet up to or adjusted to -134 since. There is a -130 to still be had at some of the Vegas properties.

The Twins have been anything but profitable in 2023 (-883 units), but are 29-24 against teams .500 or worse and 25-18 when receiving more than 60% of public support. Seattle (-1136 units) is 25-35 (-1279 units) against teams .500 or better. We suggest taking the Minnesota Twins and the generous plus money in a low-scoring affair. That does it for our Twins vs Mariners odds preview, we wish the best in the second half of the season.
