White Sox vs Mets Odds: Can the Mets Build Momentum Before August?

Disappointing Teams Will Face-Off in 3-Game Interleague Series

The New York Mets spent the most money in the MLB since Steven Cohen took over as the owner of the Mets. Despite spending money, the Mets are 43-50 and 8.5 games out of the final wild-card spot in the Major League Baseball standings.

The Mets had high expectations and have fallen off quickly. On the other hand, the Chicago White Sox were projected to have a good season. However, they’re the third-worst AL team in baseball, with only Luis Robert Jr. providing a spark for this ball club.

The White Sox will be sellers at the trade deadline. But it’s too soon to know if the Mets will be too. However, if the Mets lose a home series to the White Sox, the Mets will have an easy decision to make before the Trade Deadline.

Can the Mets save themselves from more embarrassment this week? Here’s a look at the White Sox vs. Mets Odds for the three-game series.

Can Either Offense Score Consistently?

The New York Mets and Chicago White Sox are in the bottom 10 of the MLB in OPS. They’ve got MLB lineups that have had success in the past. However, it’s just not working out this year.

For example, Jeff McNeil won the NL Batting Title with the Mets last season. He’s hitting just .248 this season for New York.

On the other hand, White Sox star shortstop, Tim Anderson, hasn’t hit a home run in over a year. He’s had 286 at-bats this season and still hasn’t hit a home run while hitting .227.

Jose Quintana’s Return

The New York Mets added Jose Quintana in the off-season, hoping to bolster their starting pitching depth. In 2022, he went 6-7 but had a 2.93 ERA with the Pirates and Cardinals. But after he signed, he got hurt in Spring Training and missed the entire first half of the season.

After making a few rehab starts, Quintana will debut for the Mets on Wednesday.

âš¾ Game 1 âš¾

Lucas Giolito vs Carlos Carrasco
Tuesday, 7:10 p.m. ET

The Mets will be slight favorites against the White Sox for the series’ first game. Carlos Carrasco has a 5.16 ERA on the season but has performed well against lefties over the last month. Meanwhile, he’ll face Lucas Giolito, who has a 3.45 ERA. Giolito’s the better starter, but Carrasco has improved as of late.

The Mets are sitting at -115, with the total for the White Sox vs. Mets odds set at 8.5, the over juiced at -115.

âš¾ Game 2 âš¾

Touki Toussaint vs Justin Verlander
Wednesday, 7:10 p.m. ET

In the second game of the series, Justin Verlander will take on Touki Toussaint. At first glance, the Mets have the pitching advantage with a three-time Cy Young winner on the mound. However, baseball betting can be tricky sometimes. Toussaint has held his last 83 batters to a .075 ISO and wOBA of .278 while inducing 62.5% of ground balls in the previous 30 days.

He’s pitched better than Verlander. But the White Sox vs. Mets Odds will still favor the Mets with Verlander on the mound at home.

âš¾ Game 3 âš¾

Michael Kopech vs Jose Quintana
Thursday, 1:10 p.m. ET

Michael Kopech was chased away in the first inning against the Braves in his last start. He started the year scorching but has fallen off since. He’s allowed a .364 ISO and wOBA of .482 against his last 48 batters.

It’s also unlikely that Quintana will be limited for the Mets in his return. He’s thrown multiple rehab games and should be ready to contribute to his max capacity.

This is another game that the Mets have an advantage in.
