Angels vs Royals Series Preview: KC With Fewest Wins in MLB

Los Angeles With Good Chance to Make-Up Ground

The Angels vs Royals series preview notes the Kansas City Royals now have the worst record in Major League Baseball. Oakland’s recent winning streak gave the A’s 19 wins on the season. The Royals are still stuck on 18, although they’ve played three fewer games. It doesn’t make much difference. Both teams are pretty bad.

The Los Angeles Angels visit the Royals for a three-game series this weekend. The Angels are playing well, having won eight of their last 10 games. Los Angeles is just 1.0 games out of the playoffs. The Angels are No. 6 in runs scored and No. 5 in home runs. The offense hasn’t been a problem for Los Angeles.

The Angels are No. 16 in team ERA, so they’re pretty much a middle-of-the-pack team in that regard. Los Angeles’ 25 saves are the most of any team. One problem the Angels have had is against teams that are better than .500, where they’re 13-20. That won’t be the case here, as the Royals are just dismal.

Kansas City is No. 29 in team ERA at 5.20, which is just a shade worse than Colorado. At least the Rockies pitchers have an excuse, playing half of their games at Coors Field. The Royals pitching has just been plain bad.

The Kansas City offense has been equally to blame. The Royals are No. 29 in runs scored and rank near the bottom in the key offensive stats.

The Royals are equally as bad as home as they are on the road. Kansas City has gone 5-13 after a win. So if the Royals manage to grab a victory Friday or Saturday, the Angels are worth adding to your MLB picks and parlays. Especially since Los Angeles is 19-13 after a loss.

Friday’s Game

The Angels vs Royals series preview has Patrick Sandoval and Brady Singer as the two pitchers Friday. Neither has been impressive, but Sandoval looks to be the lessor of two evils in this one. Los Angeles is just 4-8 when Sandoval starts, allowing 4.5 runs per game. The Angels have scored three or fewer runs in seven of his 12 starts.

The Royals are 6-7 when Singer starts, allowing 5.67 runs per game. At home, Kansas City has gone 3-5 with Singer on the mound. But it’s hard to overlook Kansas City’s 9-26 home record.

This is one of the ugliest games on Friday’s MLB schedule. The Angels are the better team and should take the game, but it’s hard to lay -150 on Sandoval. The total is 9.5 on the game.

Saturday’s Game

The Angels will send Griffin Canning to the mound in this one. The Royals haven’t named a starting pitcher for the game. Canning has pitched well and the Angels are 7-3 in his starts this season.

Los Angeles is allowing 3.2 runs per game with him on the mound. Away from home, the Angels are 3-2 and allow 3.6 runs per game. The Angels have won his last four starts, allowing nine runs in that span.

Los Angeles should have the better pitcher going in this one. You’ll likely be asked to lay some high odds, but it’s probably the way to go in this one. Especially if the Royals can pull the small upset Friday night.

Sunday’s Game

The Angels vs Royals series preview has Tyler Anderson and Zack Greinke scheduled to start this one. Neither has been too impressive this season. The Angels are 8-4 when Anderson starts. But they’re allowing 5.0 runs per game. You can’t expect the Angels’ offense to continue to score 6.07 runs per game when he takes the mound. The Angels have allowed five or more runs in six of his 12 starts.

Greinke isn’t pitching as bad as his numbers suggest. The Royals have lost his last six starts and are just 3-11 when he takes the mound this season. Kansas City allows 4.71 in his starts, which is fewer than Anderson allows. But there’s a huge difference in the records of the two pitchers.

At home, it’s even worse for Greinke. The Royals are 2-5 when he starts despite allowing just 3.71 runs per game. He’s deserved a better fate in several games, but also knew what he was getting into when he returned to Kansas City.

The Royals could be worth a look if the Angels win the first two games of the series.
