Carles Gil Stats: Goals, Assists, and Performance Insights

2021 MVP Excelling Once Again

Revolution Currently in Second Place in East

Since arriving from Deportivo La Coruña in 2019, Carles Gil has established himself as one of the best players in MLS. The New England Revolution midfielder just made a second straight All-Star team and is having another fine season. The Revs’ captain was the 2021 MLS MVP and he could play himself into the MVP race this year. As the Revs make their playoff push, we’ll take a look at the Carles Gil stats.

NER Gil’s New England Stats 2019-2022

Carles Gil was a sneaky good acquisition for the New England Revolution back in 2019. An attacking midfielder, Gil had previously played in La Liga for Deportivo La Coruña, Elche and Valencia and in the Premier League for Aston Villa. The Revs broke their club record transfer fee to bring in Gil for $2 million. In his first season in MLS, Carles Gil’s stats were stellar.

He was the Revs’ top goal scorer, with 10 MLS goals and he ranked second in the league, with 12 assists. That season, Gil made the MLS best XI and was the MLS Newcomer of the Year. Gil then missed most of the COVID-shortened 2020 season due to a bone spur injury on his heel. After recovering, Gil had another excellent season in 2021.

New England finished first in the MLS soccer standings and won the MLS Supporter’s Shield. Gil scored four goals and added 10 assists on his way to the MLS MVP award. In 2022, Gil actually managed more contributions than in his MVP season. He scored seven goals and registered nine assists but the Revs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018. Gil was named to his first MLS All-Star team, though.

Current Season

So far, the New England Revolution have the second-best record in MLS in 2023. With just 11 matches remaining on their MLS schedule, the Revs are closing in on a playoff appearance. Carles Gil is at the center of New England’s success once again and he was a late addition to the MLS All-Star team.

Gil’s MLS stats rank him as New England’s joint-top scorer and their leading assist provider. With seven goals and six assists, he ranks eighth in MLS with 13 goal contributions. With two goals in a 3-3 draw vs. Atlanta United in late May, including a last gap equalizer, Gil was the Player of Matchday 16. While Gil has earned a bunch of individual accolades in his MLS career, he’s never reached the MLS Cup Final. Through 23 games, the Revs have the joint-best goal difference in MLS.

New England Revolution Matches, Odds

As the New England Revolution contest the Leagues Cup, they have a few weeks’ break in their MLS season. Heading into the Leagues Cup, the Revs had won five of their last seven MLS matches. Carles Gil’s stats in their last two MLS matches were highly impressive. He managed three assists in the last two matches leading into the Leagues Cup.

Gil scored in the penalty shootout loss vs. the Red Bulls in the Revs’ first Leagues Cup match. He also started in the 5-1 win vs. San Luis that sent New England through to the knockout stage. On Thursday, the Revs host Mexican side Atlas in the round of 32 of the Leagues Cup. Should New England win, they’ll take on the winner of Queretaro and UNAM.

When the MLS season resumes, New England will look to pick up where they left off. The Revs have the fourth-best odds to win the MLS Cup, at +1000.
