Another Record for Unbeaten Georgia

The Georgia Bulldogs have remained steadfast in their pursuit of a third straight national championship. At 12-0, the Bulldogs are ranked first in the AP Top 25 and also remain atop the College Football Playoff rankings. As such, they’re priced +200 to win another NCAA title. According to college football betting lines, only Michigan (+185) currently has better odds.

Georgia knocked off Georgia Tech in Week 13 on the 2023 NCAAF schedule, defeating its in-state rival 31-23 to guarantee its third consecutive undefeated regular season. The Bulldogs, 24.5-point favorites, also extended their winning streak to a record 29 games, passing the 1978-80 and 1991-93 Alabama teams. Kendall Milton paced the Bulldogs with 156 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

The Bulldogs have steamrolled their SEC opponents this season, going 8-0 in conference play. All of those victories came by at least seven points, and six ended in double digits. The Bulldogs were favored in every game, including by no fewer than 8.5 points. They’ve covered the spread in three of their last four SEC games.

Despite turning over a slew of talent, including quarterback Stetson Bennett, the Bulldogs are still dominant on both sides of the ball. Thanks to the likes of Carson Beck and Brock Bowers, they ranked in the top 10 nationally in both yards per game (496.4) and scoring (39.6 PPG). On average, they’ve also given up the sixth-fewest points (15.8).

A win Saturday will guarantee Georgia a spot in the four-team CFP. The Bulldogs still may qualify if they lose, but their fate will be a lot more uncertain. At the moment, they’re -550 to make the CFP.

Survive and Advance

Despite taking a more circuitous route, the Alabama Crimson Tide find themselves back in a familiar place: contending for a berth in the CFP. The Crimson Tide dramatically kept their playoff hopes alive last week, rallying past rival Auburn 27-24. A 13.5-point favorite, Alabama took the lead for 32 seconds left when Jalen Milroe connected with Isaiah Bond for a stunning 31-yard touchdown pass on fourth and goal.

Alabama improved to 11-1, including 8-0 in SEC play, while remaining No. 8 in the AP poll. The Crimson Tide are now priced at +850 to win the national championship, the fourth-highest odds behind Michigan, Georgia and Oregon (+500).

The Crimson Tide have won 10 straight games since losing 34-24 to Texas on Sept. 9, seven of them by double digits. They’ve been favored in every game this season, including by as few as 2.5 points. They’re 6-2 ATS in SEC play.

Despite that, their fate still rests largely on what happens Saturday. The Crimson Tide will need to upset Georgia to keep their CFP hopes alive. Even that might not be enough in the eyes of some given their loss to Texas. A loss obviously would eliminate the Crimson Tide from contention and land them, in all likelihood, in a New Year’s Six bowl. For what it’s worth, the Crimson Tide are currently +195 to make the CFP.

Jalen Milroe has had a big hand in Alabama’s recent surge. After getting benched early this season, he’s thrown multiple touchdowns in six of the last seven games on the Alabama Crimson Tide football schedule. He’s now thrown for 2,526 yards and 21 touchdowns compared to six interceptions. Additionally, he’s also rushed for 12 college football scores.
