Colorado State Rams 2023 Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins, and Player Props

Rams Coming off First Winning Season ATS Since 2016

2023 Colorado State stats shows them finishing the season 6-5 ATS (+45 units). Beforehand the Rams were 20-32 against the spread since the 2017 season. That may be an indication that Jay Norvell’s team is turning a corner despite an overall record of 3-9 and 3-5 in the Mountain West. CSU has not been to a bowl game since 2017 when Mike Bobo led the Rams to the New Mexico Bowl, a 31-28 loss to the Marshall Thundering Herd. The Rams have not won a bowl game since 2013, a 48-45 victory over the Washington State Cougars in the New Mexico Bowl. This season Colorado is +3500 to win the Mountain West, 9th choice overall.

Norvell Must make Strides In Second Season

The final NCAAF standings in the Mountain West weren’t exactly what Rams fans were hoping for after new head football coach Jay Norvell was brought in from Nevada to resurrect a program that went to five straight bowl games from 2013-2017. As a head coach, Norvell is 36-35 in his career after five seasons at Reno, where he led the Pack to four bowl games in five seasons. It’s unfair to have an opinion on the job Norvell has done after a season that featured a plethora of transfers, but there are some reports that alums are getting restless.

The pressure will come off if Norvell’s offense is better than 129th in points scored (13.2 ppg and 126th in total yards per game (287.2). It’s not like the offense was getting better as the season progressed. Over the Rams’ last five games, CSU averaged 10.2 PPG and 8.33 per game over their last 3. Defensively, Colorado State is good enough to compete in the Mountain West. Many feel they have one of the best secondaries in the conference.

The combination of size inside and Mohamed Kamara on the outside should give Rams fans a burst of confidence that 2023’s Colorado State stats will show an improved record. The Rams open up their 131st college football schedule with a date against the Washington State Cougars who will test the strength of that vaunted secondary when they bring the nation’s 35th-best passing team into Fort Collins. With early games against WSU, Colorado, and Middle Tennessee State, you can bet the weakness of last year’s squad will be tested.

National Championship Odds: Long Way From This Conversation

There’s no way the Colorado State Rams will compete for a national championship so we’ll just filter in some betting numbers instead of wasting space trying to convince our readers that the moon is made of cheese. 2023 Colorado State betting stats were improved, but not good enough to call the program a reliable wager. Since 2005, CSU is 99-107 ATS (-1410 units). Many of those losses are caused by their inability to cover against conference foes Boise State and San Diego State, along with in-state rival Colorado. Against those three schools, the Rams are 11-27-1 ATS (-1641 units). No team is worse against those three teams in College Football and all three are on the Colorado State schedule in 2023.

Conference Odds: Rams Expected to Be Buried In MWC

At +3500, no one is expecting a miracle, but oddsmakers have a sliver of confidence that the Rams will be better than last season when CSU opened at +5000. The Rams College Football schedule is full of teams they lost to in their last meeting, in fact, the Rams have beaten just three of their upcoming opponents in their last match-up (UNLV, Nevada, and Hawaii). The wins against Nevada and Hawaii were by a combined seven points, while UNLV is expected to take a leap forward. Nothing will come easy for the Rams in 2023.

Regular Season Wins: Oddsmakers Still Lack Confidence

In 2022, CSU’s projected win total was 5.5 The bookmakers were reluctant to put that number up, but instead of a 4.5, they attached -155 (over) to the number. Bettors took that and made the guys behind the counter a lot of cash. This season, with the Rams, projected win total at 4.5 (over -130), there was no hesitation. Projecting their 2023 College Football point spreads, we think the Rams will likely be favored in four games (MTSU, UNLV, Nevada, Hawaii). We still think we can find five wins in this year’s schedule. We’re going to give them a win against Middle Tennessee State, after dropping last year’s clash by 15 points as a two-touchdown favorite.

A trip to Las Vegas will likely make a major difference in cashing an over ticket or not. Vegas is waiting for its program to turn around, but until that happens nothing is a guaranteed win. CSU handled the Rebs with ease in 2019 (37-17) and we think they will again. With late wins against Nevada and Hawaii, the Rams will be at four wins. We need one more to go over the total, after going back through the games a win at Wyoming in a revenge spot is our pick for win number five. The Rams blew a late fourth-quarter lead last season in a 14-13 home loss, they’ll get that back in 2022. Unfortunately, the 2023 Colorado State Stats will be better, but not good enough for a bowl appearance.
