Memphis Tigers 2023 Future Odds

Tigers Hope to Turn Around an 11-21 ATS Record Since 2020

The Charlotte 49ers finished the 2022 season 7-6 SU and 3-5 SU as a member of the American Athletic Association. This season will be the 11th for the Tigers in the AAC after moving from Conference USA in 2013.

Last season, Memphis beat Utah State, 38-10, in the First Responder Bowl in Dallas, Texas. It was the ninth straight season the Tigers have participated in a postseason game.

Fifth-year Head Coach Ryan Silverfield, 21-16 SU at Memphis bu his team was just 5-6 ATS in 2022, making it the school’s third straight losing season for bettors.

Let us begin our Memphis Tigers future odds preview with an overall view of the program.

Conference Consistency Next Step for Memphis

The three straight bowl games under head coach Ryan Silverfield are nice, but a better-quality bowl will only happen if the Tigers find a way to be more competitive inside the AAC. Memphis is just 11-13 in conference play over the last three seasons, 10-3 outside the AAC. That lands a program in games like the First Responder Bowl (2022), Hawaii Bowl (2021), and the Montgomery Bowl (2020).

It’s great to get to the postseason, although the 2021 Hawaii Bowl was canceled, the program would rather play in the Cotton Bowl as they did in 2019. That’s the next step and it starts with a .500 record or better inside the conference. This year they’ll have to contend with newcomers ATSA and UAB in addition to games against SMU and East Carolina.

Their Navy, Missouri, and Boise State are on their non-conference NCAAF schedule. Their strength of schedule is ranked 130th in the nation with a combined opponent record of 63-86. Underrated Quarterback Seth Henigan is entering his junior season after throwing for 6,881 yards, 47 touchdowns, and just 16 picks.

However, with the loss of his top four receivers from last year’s team and an offensive line that is average at pass protection, you can see why the oddsmakers have the Tigers projected win total at eight. Silverfields goal is to take some pressure off the passing game and to do that he’ll rely on a deep stable at running back led by Jevyon Ducker who rushed 544 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022.

The staff is high on Brandon Thomas who may be the team’s top back if he can overcome a late-season undisclosed injury that forced their talented runner to miss multiple games at the end of last season. We continue our Memphis Tigers future odds preview with a look at their season-long betting options.

National Championship Odds: Chances Improve, But A Long Way Away

Last year the NCAAF experts made the Memphis Tigers +100000 to win the National Title. Usually, those types of odds mean that the team has very little chance of sniffing the crystal for a very long time. It’s really a number of disrespect if we’re being honest. This season they have made the Tigers +40000 to win the title, a clear indication that the program is on its way up even if it doesn’t show in the final record.

Conference Odds: Oddsmakers Project Memphis to Compete for Title

Watching the AAC’s College Football scoreboard this season will be a blast because the case can be made for five teams to compete for a spot in the conference championship game. One of those teams is the Memphis Tigers who are +600, the fourth choice by the oddsmakers. That’s quite the jump from previous seasons when the Tigers were +1200 in 2021 and +1400 in 2022. 2019 was the last time the Tigers had a winning ATS record inside the conference (8-5, +234 units).

To break it down further, Memphis seems to be particularly weak against conference opponents as a favorite, compiling a 5-12 ATS mark since 2020. We think Memphis is worth a wager but don’t be disappointed if they fall just short. We conclude our Memphis Tigers future odds preview with an in-depth look at their projected win total.

Regular Season Wins: Tiger Fans Won’t be Happy

Before fans get nuts, we think Memphis will be back in their 10th straight bowl game, we just can’t justify betting over their projected win total of eight wins. Despite their schedule being perceived as one of the easier climbs in College Football, we think the early gauntlet of games against Arkansas State, Navy, Missouri, Boise State, and Tulane will seal their under-eight fate early.

We definitely see a run at the end of the season to get to another mid-level bowl game, but their inability to win inside of a conference that is only getting stronger is worrisome at best.

We still need to see better pass protection across the offensive line even though it will be the run game that will be the deciding factor in their 2023 success. We nailed the under 7.5 last season and we’re confident we’ll do the same this season. Our official selection is under 8 (-120). That does it for our Memphis Tigers future odds preview, we wish you nothing but winners in 2023.
