Wisconsin Badgers Future Odds

Air Raid Offense Arrives in Wisconsin

It’s going to be a new look in Wisconsin this season. Luke Fickell arrives after a successful run in Cincinnati, although he did coach the Badgers in their Guaranteed Rate Bowl victory. New offensive coordinator Phil Longo loves to throw the ball, and the Badgers are bringing in former SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai and a slew of receivers to run Longo’s Air Raid offense. The Wisconsin Badgers future odds are calling for another strong season.

Badgers Won’t Completely Abandon Running Game

The Wisconsin Badgers have been one of the top rushing teams in the country consistently. But the passing game has often left a bit to be desired. Last season’s passing attack ranked No. 113 in the country. That’s not going to happen this season.

In addition to Mordecai, the Badgers added some major talent at the wide receiver position. Wisconsin returns its top three wideouts from last season and is adding Bryson Green (36 catches, 584 yards, 5 TDs) from Oklahoma State and several others.

Wisconsin has one of the top running backs in the country in Braelon Allen. The Badgers also have a top-notch backup in Chez Mellusi. They’ll still get their carries. But opposing defenses will have to respect the pass a lot more than they have in recent years.

The Wisconsin offensive line is big, with both tackles and center Jake Renfro all well over 300 pounds. Renfro missed last season with an injury after a stellar season in 2021 for Cincinnati. The line will have to adjust to some new schemes but should be just fine.

The defense will also have a new look and should run the 3-3-5 that worked well in Cincinnati. They have eight returning starters and a couple of promising transfers, so they shouldn’t miss a beat.

The defense did have a few problems last year, with the NCAAF scores showing Wisconsin allowed 34 or more points on three occasions, including 52 to Ohio State. Wisconsin was off from previous seasons and was sixth in the Big Ten Conference in points allowed. That’s not quite what you expect out of the Badgers defense.

National Championship Odds: Badgers Have Little Chance

The Wisconsin Badgers future odds of +6000 are a little lower than last year’s odds of +8000. But then again, Wisconsin finished the regular season last year with a 6-6 record. The Badgers are the favorite to advance to the Big Ten Conference championship game from the West.

A victory over Michigan or Ohio State in the conference title game could be enough to get them into the playoffs, depending on how they fare during the regular season. Getting there is the first step, but Wisconsin will have to compete with a few of the ‘Big Boys’ of the college football world.

Conference Odds: Wisconsin Will Need to Pull Upset

The Badgers were +1200 to win the Big Ten Conference last year, so they’re being given a better shot this season. But whichever team comes out of the East will be favored in the conference championship game. Still, the Badgers have an easier path to the title game than Michigan, Ohio State or Penn State, who all play in the East. There are far worse college football picks you can make than taking the Badgers to win the Big Ten.

Regular Season Wins: Badgers With Good Shot to Go Over

The Badgers fell well under last year’s win total of 8.5 and are back with another 8.5 for this season. But Wisconsin has the pieces in place for a much different outcome. The college football schedule is somewhat favorable for the Badgers. Wisconsin has its two toughest conference games at home, against Ohio State and Iowa. The Badgers do visit Washington State in Week 2 when Wisconsin is still working out some kinks in the new offense and defense. Early season games against Buffalo and Georgia Southern should help in that area.

Then there are a couple of potential problem spots for the Badgers, such as the Oct. 21 game at Illinois. It comes after the Iowa game and before the Ohio State game, so there’s a definite letdown game there. The regular season finale against Minnesota isn’t a sure thing, especially if the Gophers are fighting for a bowl berth. But the Badgers should be good for nine or 10 wins this season.

To Make Playoffs: Badgers Can Afford One Loss

The Wisconsin Badgers future odds of making the college football playoff field are basically the same as last year. It’s a long shot. But it is possible, which is more than can be said for the majority of college football teams.

But the only way the Badgers make the field is with a Big Ten championship game victory or an undefeated regular season. Either way, Ohio State will be standing in the way at least once, maybe twice if the Buckeyes reach the conference championship game.
