Arizona State Sun Devils Future Odds

ASU Looks to Rebound With New Coach

To say last season was a disappointment for the Arizona State Sun Devils would be quite an understatement. The Sun Devils had a win total of 6.0 but finished the season with a 3-9 record. ASU cleaned house, naming 33-year-old Kenny Dillingham the team’s new coach. He previously served as offensive coordinator at Oregon. The Arizona State Sun Devils future odds show people are expecting another long season for Sun Devil faithful.

Sun Devils Can Score, Can’t Stop Anyone

The Arizona State offense wasn’t bad for a 3-9 team, as the Sun Devils scored 26.1 points per game last year. The problem was the defense allowed 31.4 points per game. The college football scores show a 50-36 loss to UCLA and a 38-35 setback at the hands of rival Arizona among the team’s nine losses.

The Sun Devils have a quarterback battle featuring last year’s TD passing leader Trenton Bourguet, Notre Dame transfer Drew Pyne and freshman Jaden Rashada. Bourquet split time with Emory Jones last year and completed 71.1% of his passes for 1,490 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. Pyne threw for 2,021 yards and 22 touchdowns for Notre Dame. Rashada is a big-time talent whose NIL deal fell apart at Florida, and he signed with Arizona State. The Sun Devils are in great shape at quarterback.

Elijhah Badger led the Sun Devils with 70 receptions for 70 yards. He’ll again be paired with Jalin Connors, who had 38 receptions and five touchdowns and slot receiver Giovanni Sanders, who had 40 catches.

ASU’s running backs should be led by Sacramento State transfer Cameron Skattebo, who had over 1,400 rushing yards last season. The offensive line will be decent but lacking depth. Arizona State added some linemen from the transfer portal, as the Sun Devils brought in 33 transfers in total.

The defense will be run by new defensive coordinator Brian Ward, who likes to use the 4-2-5. The team has some players who can do well in it. Oklahoma transfer Clayton Smith and Texas transfer Prince Dorbah have looked good in practice at defensive end.

The secondary should be decent, leaving linebacker as the most significant question mark on the defense entering the new season.

National Championship Odds: Not This Year

The Arizona State Sun Devils future odds of +40000 let you know the sportsbook doesn’t think too highly of ASU’s chances. You can’t blame them there. The Sun Devils were +10000 last season and weren’t even close to a bowl game, let alone the playoffs.

Conference Odds: Pac-12 Conference is Too Tough for ASU

The Arizona State Sun Devils future odds of +10000 are tied for the highest of any team, with Colorado and Stanford. Last year the Sun Devils were +4000. But the Sun Devils need to worry about getting two or three conference wins before they think about contending for the title. Three conference wins would be an improvement for a team that was 3-9 straight-up and 5-7 against the college football point spreads.

ASU gets Colorado at home, and that’s one they can win. The Sun Devils host Arizona to end the season, and Washington State is another home game that’s not out of reach. The trip to California looks to be ASU’s best chance for road games.

Regular Season Wins: Five Victories is Asking a Lot

Arizona State should be a better football team than it was last season. Not NCAAF rankings good, but better than last year’s three-win team. But if that can translate into five or more wins is another story. The Sun Devils will be helped by eight home games. But among those are games against Oklahoma State, Oregon and USC. Arizona State will be underdogs in each of those contests.

ASU should beat Southern Utah and Fresno State early to bring a 2-1 record into Pac-12 Conference play. That means the Sun Devils would have to go 3-6 in conference play to finish with five wins. A 4-5 mark in the Pac-12 should see the Sun Devils reach six wins. Of course, if ASU falls to a decent Fresno State team, it’s going to be an uphill climb.

The Sun Devils look to finish between four and six victories, with five being the most likely.
