2023 Cincinnati Bearcats Future Odds

HC Scott Satterfield Will Be Challenged in the Big 12

There have been a lot of changes within the Cincinnati Bearcats football program. The Bearcats went 9-4 with Luke Fickell as head coach. But when he was allowed to coach Wisconsin, Fickell darted Cincinnati, forcing the Bearcats to hire former Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield.

Satterfield will be the head coach at a pivotal time for the Bearcats. Cincinnati has joined the Big 12 this season and will have a much more difficult schedule than previous years when in the American Athletic Conference.

The Bearcats have had plenty of success with their football program for years. But the expectations for the Bearcats are a little slimmer now. They’re in the Big 12, and fans probably want to be competitive. A bowl appearance in Sattersfield’s first season would probably create strong momentum for the program in its new era.

Let’s take a look at the Cincinnati Bearcats’ future odds for the season.

The All-Transfer Team!

The Cincinnati offense will likely start seven transfers on offense. On the depth chart, the roster has 15 transfers on the offense. This could either work wonders or become a complete disaster.

Emory Jones will likely start at quarterback. Jones’s career began in Florida from 2018-2021. He only started in 2021 and added 2,734 yards passing with 13 interceptions that season.

Last season, he added only 1,533 yards passing on 199 attempts for Arizona State. He’ll play his final season with the Bearcats in the Big 12.

Jones is familiar with Power 5 games. But he’s not familiar with his teammates. His receiving weapons include Dee Wiggins from Miami, Donovan Ollie from Washington State, and Xzavier Henderson from Florida. He’s also got other transfers who can break out, including Aaron Turner from UConn and Sterling Berkhalter from North Carolina A&T.

The offense retained Corey Kiner at running back. He’ll be a one-two punch with Myles Montgomery. Plus, Jones is capable of running the football himself as well. Meanwhile, the offensive line was horrific last year. They’ve added a bunch of transfers to help that group perform at a higher level this time.

I should also note that Emory Jones doesn’t officially have the quarterback job for the Bearcats. He likely wins the job, but Evan Prater is another quarterback with plenty of potential to beat out Jones for the job.

Can The Defense Be As Good in the Big 12?

The Bearcats were tremendous defensively last year. They were at the top in many categories in the AAC, including total and scoring defense.

Scott Satterfield brought Bryan Brown over from Louisville. He’ll be the defensive coordinator after he led the Cardinals’ defense to the top spot in sacks and seventh in tackles for loss in all of FBS college football.

The Bearcats have also added more than ten transfers on the defensive side of the ball. Utah State transfer Daniel Grzesiak should be dominant along with Malik Vann. The defensive line should dominate this season. However, the run defense wasn’t great. That’ll be something the defense needs to work on.

Deshawn Pace is also back for another year with the Bearcats. He had 157 tackles with 14.5 tackles for a loss and five interceptions in the last two seasons. Pace is a former Louisville prospect who came over with Satterfield and Brown when they moved to Cincinnati.

Let’s break down all the Cincinnati Bearcats Future odds for the season below.

National Championship Odds: Baby Steps for Cincinnati

The Bearcats are playing their first season in the Big 12. Keep your expectations low. For example, they’ll have to face much tougher competition, including TCU, Kansas State, Texas, and Oklahoma.

The college football scoreboard won’t always look pretty for the Bearcats in the Big 12, but if they can hold their own and win multiple games this season, that would be encouraging in their new conference.

But they’ll lose plenty of games this year too. That wouldn’t help their chances of earning a College Football Playoff bid. Don’t bother placing bets with Cincinnati to win the College Football Playoff Championship.

Conference Odds: No Hope For The Bearcats

Moving to the Big 12 was a great move. But the Bearcats have gone from having one of the best NCAAF teams in their conference to one of the worst.

In the best-case scenario, the Bearcats earn a bowl appearance and knock off one of the few top teams in the Big 12. It’s totally possible. It’s hard to know where Cincinnati is because of all the new pieces and faces on the roster.

The Bearcats are +10000 and have the third lowest probability of winning the conference. They’d have to get through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Kansas, UCF, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and BYU. That’s a gauntlet.

The Big 12 might not have the best talent. But it’s easily the most balanced conference in college football.

Regular Season Wins: Can Cincinnati Earn A Bowl Appearance?

Here’s a look at the NCAAF schedule for the Bearcats. It’s not an easy one. The Bearcats are projected to win six games but have odds at +140 to get Over 5.5 wins this season.

The Bearcats will take on Eastern Kentucky to begin the season. Chalk that one up as a win. However, they’ll travel to Pittsburgh on the road for an intriguing non-conference matchup. On the road, I like Pittsburgh’s chances. Pittsburgh has a lot of information on Scott Satterfield from his time in the ACC with Louisville.

At 1-1, Cincinnati should take down Miami OH, but lose to Oklahoma. They’d be 2-2 with a road game against BYU.

I like BYU in that NCAAF matchup. But after a road game against BYU, they’ll face Iowa State at home. That’s a game where I think Cincinnati can come out on top. They’d be 3-3 through the first six games.

Cincinnati would only need three more wins from the rest of the season to earn a bowl game. They’ll be home against Baylor and face Oklahoma State on the road. But of those would likely be losses.

However, they’ll face USF and Houston in their next two games. Both are winnable, with both teams coming from the AAC. That’s five wins, with the Bearcats needing one more against West Virginia and Kansas. Cincinnati should be able to earn one of those two.

Therefore, I’ve got the Bearcats earning six wins and finding a way into a Bowl game. Some NCAAF expert picks disagree, but the Bearcats should have enough to get Over 5.5 wins this season. Take the Over on the Cincinnati Bearcats future odds with confidence.
