Notably, the Gamecocks are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games against Missouri. Meanwhile, the Missouri Tigers are 4-3 ATS this year, including 4-1 over their last five college football games. The total has gone Over in Missouri’s last five games. That’s important to remember when assessing the South Carolina vs Missouri odds.

New Ground for Mizzou Under Drinkwitz

The Missouri Tigers are in midst of a breakthrough season following their upset of Kentucky. Missouri is now 6-1 (2-1 in SEC play) and No. 20 in the AP Top 25 poll, one of six ranked teams from the SEC.

The Tigers went 5-5, 6-7 and 6-7 in Eli Drinkwitz’s first three seasons as head coach. That includes an 0-2 mark in bowl games. They were projected for 6.5 regular-season wins this year, with the Under boosted to -140.

They’re on the brink of surpassing that total after beating then-No. 24 Kentucky 38-21 last Saturday. A 1.5-point underdog, the Tigers rallied from deficits of 14-0 after the first quarter and 21-20 after the third quarter to cover the spread for the fourth time in five games.

Junior Brady Cook has performed well for Missouri, with a 71% completion rate, 14 touchdowns and only three interceptions in seven games. Against Kentucky, Cook rushed for a season-high 40 yards with a touchdown, his fourth rushing this season. Under his watch, the Tigers are averaging a healthy 33.9 points per game.

Missouri hasn’t won more than six games since 2018, when it appeared in the Liberty Bowl and finished 8-5. That also happens to be the Tigers’ last winning season. The Tigers’ remaining schedule is tricky — they’re slated to visit No. 1 Georgia on Nov. 4 before hosting No. 17 Tennessee the following week — but there’s enough time remaining for them to blow past expectations and continue to climb the NCAAF standings.

Disappointing Start for Gamecocks

The South Carolina Gamecocks have lost two straight after collapsing late against Florida. They’re now 2-4, including just 1-3 in SEC play.

A 1-point favorite, South Carolina blew a 10-point lead with 9:11 remaining to fall to Florida 41-39 last Saturday. The Gamecocks squandered a solid performance from Spencer Rattler, who was 23 of 30 passing for 313 yards with four touchdowns and one interception.

Barring a late-season turnaround, South Carolina is on track to miss a bowl game for the first time in Shane Beamer’s three years as head coach. It’s particularly disappointing, as the Gamecocks were projected for 6.0 regular-season wins.

The Gamecocks have been middle-of-the-pack offensively, averaging 410.2 yards and 29 points per game. The bigger issue of late has been on defense. The Gamecocks have allowed 112 points over their last three games, including 41 in back-to-back weeks.

South Carolina’s remaining schedule is relatively light. Currently, only one of its final six regular-season opponents is ranked. There’s opportunity to make up ground. Keep that in mind when making your college football picks against the spread.

Handicapping the Game

After a trio of relatively non-descript seasons, Missouri is finally on the right track under Drinkwitz. The Tigers are already bowl eligible and have moved into the conversation for a New Year’s Six bowl.

Despite its 2-4 start, South Carolina has been competitive in most games. Three of the Gamecocks’ four SEC games have been decided by 10 points or fewer. That includes a 24-14 loss to top-ranked Georgia. They’re talented enough to keep this close too, but Missouri should do enough to outlast the Gamecocks.

Given the big-play capabilities of both offenses, the Over looks well within reach. Remember that when analyzing the South Carolina vs Missouri odds.
