Mississippi vs Auburn Betting Trends

The Ole Miss Rebels are 4-2 against the spread this season. However, they’re just 1-4 ATS in their last five games against Auburn. Notably, the total has gone Under in four of the Rebels’ last six SEC games. The Auburn Tigers, meanwhile, are 2-4 ATS this year. The total has gone Under in nine of the Tigers’ last 13 games. That’s important to remember when assessing the Ole Miss vs Auburn odds.

Red Hot Rebels

So far, so (mostly) good for the Ole Miss Rebels, who are 5-1 after edging Arkansas 27-20 on Oct. 7. On the heels of their bye, the Rebels remain No. 13 in the AP Top 25 NCAAF rankings, one of three SEC teams in the top 15.

Ole Miss was a 13-point favorite against Arkansas but failed to cover the spread for the second time in three games. Trailing 20-17, the Rebels got a 7-yard touchdown run from Ulysses Bentley IV with 7:49 remaining to take the lead for good.

Halfway through their regular-season schedule, the Rebels are essentially a lock to qualify for a bowl game for the fourth straight season under head coach Lane Kiffin. They’re also closing in on their projected win total of 7.5.

For better or worse, that’s probably the ceiling for Ole Miss. The Rebels, who trail No. 11 Alabama and No. 19 LSU in the SEC West standings, are a +3000 longshot to win the conference per NCAAF odds. They’d likely need to win out to have a shot at the SEC Championship game, and even that might not be enough.

The Rebels boast one of the most productive offenses in the country, ranking eighth in points per game (41.7) and 11th in yards per game (489.3). They’ve scored at least 27 points in five of their six games, with the exception of a 24-10 loss to then-No. 13 Alabama on Sept. 23.

Central to the Rebels’ attack is Jaxson Dart. The junior has thrown for 12 touchdowns and just two interceptions while also rushing for four scores. They also have a highly productive rusher in Quinshon Jenkins (443 rushing yards, seven TDs). Keep that in mind when analyzing the Ole Miss vs Auburn odds.

Fading Tigers

The Auburn Tigers are reeling after falling 48-18 to then-No. 22 LSU in Week 7, their third consecutive loss in SEC play. The Tigers have been outscored 102-48 during that stretch.

An 11-point underdog, Auburn trailed LSU 17-0 after the first quarter and failed to cover the spread for the fourth time in five weeks.

Sitting near the bottom of the SEC West standings, the Tigers are now unsurprisingly off the board for the SEC title. Although their remaining NCAAF schedule is somewhat manageable, the Tigers may struggle to even make a bowl game. For a team that was projected for 6.5 wins, that’s a considerable disappointment.

What’s to blame for Auburn’s struggles? Start with the offense. The Tigers rank 99th in FBS in total offense, averaging only 347.3 yards per game. They’ve scored 20 or fewer points in four of their last five games, with the exception of a 45-13 victory over FCS program Samford on Sept. 16.

Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne has just four touchdown passes in six games. It certainly doesn’t help that he’s already been sacked 14 times. Only one receiver — Jay Fair — has more than 20 receptions.

Handicapping the Game

Auburn has hit the skids after a 3-0 start in non conference play. Things will only get tougher this week. Ole Miss is one of the more dynamic teams in the SEC. Their offense is filled with playmakers, starting with leading receiver Jordan Watkins. He already has three 100-yard games this season.

Sure, Auburn is at home, but it still will have trouble keeping pace with Ole Miss. Look for the Rebels to take care of business as 6.5-point favorites.
