Giant Piece of You-Know-What
The writing was on the wall for these Giants the moment they opened the season with a donut. You may sweep the losses to Dallas and San Francisco 49ers under the rug. They’re Super Bowl contenders, after all. And despite trailing Arizona 20-0, Daniel Jones somehow led them to a comeback. But managing just three points against the Seahawks, a team that allowed an average of nearly 30 points a game, is “it”. This team stinks.
“We’re just getting going,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said following Seattle’s 24-3 win over the Giants. “We’re just putting it together. A night like this for our defense to play that explosively. I can’t remember seeking double-digit sacks.”
Indeed, the Giants made the Seahawks ‘D’ look like the “Legion of Boom”. Jones got sacked 10 times as he had three turnovers and a pick-six. Overall, this team manages just 11.5 points and four yards per play. Both are the worst in the league.
It’s why the Giants are the only 0-4 team against the spread (ATS) and why three of its four NFL scores have gone under the total.
And as far as the defense is concerned, they are allowing the third-most points in the league. They’re also the only NFL team that has yet to force a turnover. The Giants are in a giant hole no matter how you cut it. And we’d be doing a disservice to the Giants vs Dolphins betting tips by recommending a play on this team, even with its +11 spread.
Trouble in Miami’s Paradise, (Forreal This Time)
The last time we had this lede, we mentioned anything “beyond a blowout would be disappointing”. Lo and behold, Miami became the NFL leader in scoring by dropping 70 points and putting up over 720 yards. And even if the team got smoked by Buffalo 48-20, the Dolphins’ offense did decently against the NFL’s second-best defense. Its the defense that’s the problem.
Vic Fangio has coached some elite defenses. He managed to make the Bears and Broncos, two of the worst defenses right now, respectable because of it. But as it stands, the Dolphins are 28th in scoring and 26th in yards. Opposing quarterbacks have an average passer rating of 104.9, fifth-highest against the ‘Phins.
Miami will continue to score at will, thanks to Mike McDaniel’s offensive brilliance. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is deadly accurate, and the team possesses the fastest skill position players in the league. Betting Miami’s games to go ‘over’ their totals is a solid proposition. They’re 3-1 in that category and only the Patriots have managed to make it go under.
This team should continue milking the live NFL stats unless something happens to Tagovailoa. But for Miami to be a true contender, it will need to tighten up on defense. Miami likely won’t drop 30 or 40+ points against the NFL’s elite.
Fortunately, the Giants are anything but. Hence, the obvious Giants vs Dolphins betting tips would be to lay the points on Miami.
New York is so inept on offense, and its defense has given up the third-most rushing touchdowns. The Dolphins should run the Giants down en route to a high-scoring blowout. But if this team somehow chokes, it will be on its defense.
