Week 5 Oddsmaker NFL Power Rankings: Looking More Legit
The Cream is Rising, Dogs are Doing, C-Teams are Stinking

Four weeks into the NFL season and things are starting to “stabilize” now. By that, we mean that these oddsmaker NFL Power Rankings may start to look like the token rankings. The best teams are near the top while the bad teams are at the bottom. Week 4 was relatively ho-hum compared to the upset-filled Week 3. And now, the spread is an even 50% (30-30-4).
NFL Teams on How Rich (or Poor) They’ve Made You
With four NFL games played from each team, we can group every team into three tiers: the ones making bettors money, the ones losing, and the ones in between. But any experienced bettors can tell you that an even record on the spread is actually a losing one (thanks to the vig). So, sorry to every team with a 2-2 record against the spread (ATS) but unless they have a winning record or doing it at underdog odds, they’re on the losing side.
Top Tier: The Millionaire Makers
As we go deeper into the season, this top tier becomes smaller. That’s how it should be as only a fraction of NFL teams can be lucrative enough of a bet to be a “money train”. Here we have the only two undefeated NFL teams and the year’s most pleasant surprise: Tampa Bay.
Philadelphia Eagles (4-0; 2-1-1 ATS)
San Francisco 49ers (4-0; 3-1 ATS)
Tampa Bay Buccanneers (3-1; 3-1 ATS)
Profitable Tier: “It Ain’t Much, But it’s Honest Work”
Now you can also rename this as the “Contenders’ Tier” as every team on here should be a playoff team when these NFL power rankings end. Kansas City is the only team that’s 2-2 ATS here and given how this team tends to have short moneyline odds, bettors have had to whale to get returns. Still, they’re 3-1.
Detroit Lions (3-1; 3-1 ATS)
Seattle Seahawks (3-1; 3-1 ATS)
Baltimore Ravens (3-1; 3-1 ATS)
Buffalo Bills (3-1; 3-1 ATS)
Miami Dolphins (3-1; 3-1 ATS)
Dallas Cowboys (3-1; 3-1 ATS)
Kansas City Chiefs (3-1; 2-2 ATS)
Underdog Tier: Dogs Got Their Days
These teams are mainly 2-2 on both the moneyline and spread. A couple are pushing some exciting NFL scores too. What gives them an edge over the lower tier is that a) they’re making money as underdogs, and b) they’re exceeding expectations. Shoutout to the Rams who are the only unbeaten team on the spread thus far.
Los Angeles Rams (2-2; 3-0-1 ATS)
Arizona Cardinals (1-3; 3-1 ATS)
Houston Texans (2-2; 2-2 ATS)
Tennessee Titans (2-2; 2-2 ATS)
Indianapolis Colts (2-2; 2-2 ATS)
Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2; 2-2 ATS)
Green Bay Packers (2-2; 2-2 ATS)
Bleh Tier: Barely Even or Losing Money
These teams are either even on the spread and moneyline or 1-3 or some combo. The Saints are 2-2 but winless on the spread like the opposite of the Rams. But these teams all share something in common: they’re losing backers money and underachieving by these oddsmaker NFL Power Rankings standards.
Washington Commanders (2-2; 2-2 ATS)
Los Angeles Chargers (2-2; 2-2 ATS)
Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2; 2-2 ATS)
Cleveland Browns (2-2; 2-2 ATS)
Atlanta Falcons (2-2; 1-3 ATS)
New York Jets (1-3; 2-2 ATS)
New Orleans Saints (2-2; 0-3-1 ATS)
Worst Tier: The Bankroll Burners
Want to bet against a team? Take your pick from these runts here. Nearly every team here has won one game or fewer. We wanted to make an even lower tier for Carolina and Chicago as the only two winless teams on both the moneyline and spread. Check the recent NFL scores and odds and fade these losers.
New England Patriots (1-3; 1-3 ATS)
Las Vegas Raiders (1-3; 1-3 ATS)
Cincinnati Bengals (1-3; 0-3-1 ATS)
Minnesota Vikings (1-3; 1-2-1 ATS)
Denver Broncos (1-3; 0-3-1 ATS)
New York Giants (1-3; 0-4 ATS)
Carolina Panthers (0-4; 0-3-1 ATS)
Chicago Bears (0-4; 0-3-1 ATS)
