NFL Totals Week 15: Will Unders Bounce Back?

The 2023 NFL season is still seeing more unders than overs, but the gap has narrowed. Week 14 saw more overs than unders for the third straight week. The NFL scores showed an average of 42.6 points last week, which is pretty close to the season average. But both Monday night games managed to go over the total, giving overs an 8-7 record for the week. We’ll look at several of the games on the schedule this week and try to come up with winning plays in NFL totals Week 15.

The Minnesota Vikings travel to Cincinnati after their 3-0 win against Las Vegas, the lowest scoring NFL game in 16 years. Minnesota is 3-9-1 in totals this season due to an offense that’s not performing as expected but also due to a defense that is playing better than a year ago.

Granted, part of that has to do with the loss of Kirk Cousins. But the Minnesota offense isn’t making the plays it needs to. What the Vikings are doing is turning the ball over too much. Minnesota is -5 in turnovers for the season.

The Vikings have been holding their own defensively, allowing 311.2 total yards. That’s No. 10 in the NFL team rankings. Minnesota is playing solid run defense, and the secondary has shown improvement from a year ago. The Vikings allowed 388.7 total yards per game last season, so they’ve made pretty significant strides.

Jake Browning has played well for the Bengals, leading Cincinnati to 34 points in each of the last two games. But things probably won’t be so easy against Minnesota’s defense, which is allowing 13 points a game over the last four weeks.

Cincinnati has rushed for more than 110 yards in each of the last two games. When the Bengals have the running game working, the passing game is more effective.

Cincinnati has been hit or miss on defense. The Bengals are allowing 22.1 yards per game. In their last eight NFL games, the Bengals have held five NFL teams to 18 or fewer points and allowed 30 or more in the other three.

The first play for the NFL totals Week 15 will be the under 40.5. Minnesota is playing too well defensively to play the over and the Bengals can hold the Viking offense in check.

The Philadelphia Eagles are on the road for the second straight week, looking to shake off 33-13 loss to Dallas. Philadelphia has lost its last two games, with the defense allowing 75 points in the process. The offense hasn’t done its part, scoring 32 points in those two games.

The Eagles are still averaging 26.3 points for the season. Philadelphia rushes for 124.5 yards and throws for 234.3 yards per game. The Eagles have been a little bit lower-scoring on the road this season, averaging 22.7 points and allowing 20.9. The Eagles are 4-2-1 against the NFL point spreads on the road.

Philadelphia has allowed 33 or more points its last three games, so the defense needs to pick it up. The Eagles are allowing just 94 rushing yards per game, but are allowing 259.9 yards through the air. For the season, the Eagles defense has been pretty average in terms of yards and points allowed.

The Seahawks come into the game scoring 21.5 points per game. Seattle is rushing for only 92 yards per game and passing for 232.7. At home, the Seahawks don’t really show any significant changes in terms of points score or allowed.

Defensively, the Seahawks have been pretty average, allowing 24.5 points per game to teams scoring 23.2 points. Seattle isn’t all that bad defending the run, but has allowed a few yards through the air. The Seahawks allow 4.4 yards per carry to teams averaging 4.4 yards. But Seattle is allowing 243.6 yards through the air.

The pressure will be on both defenses, as neither has been particularly good the last three games. Philadelphia has allowed 109 points and Seattle has given up 100 points. At least one of the two should show some improvement in this game.

The Eagles have fallen into a tie for the division lead and the Seahawks need a few more wins if they’re going to make the NFL playoffs as a wild card team. The final play for the NFL totals Week 15 will be the under 47.5 in this game.
