NFL Week 13 Bad Beat Rankings

Few Games This Week Decided by Luck

For the most part, Week 13 of the NFL didn’t see any last-minute heroics, wacky plays, or anything else that changed the betting outcome by sheer luck. That’s a good thing for those who happen to be on the wrong side of those games more often than not. There were a few games that could have gone a little differently with a play here or there. That’s why they play the games on the field, not on paper. So, the NFL Week 13 bad beat rankings are going to be pretty slim.

No. 2 Patriots logo New England Patriots +4.5

If you knew the Patriots would only allow six points in the game, you’d feel pretty confident with your Patriots +4.5 wagers. While New England is the lowest-rated team in the NFL power rankings, you expect the Pats to at least get on the scoreboard. New England had chances, but was never able to capitalize, and lost straight-up and against the spread.

Midway through the fourth quarter, the Patriots reached the Los Angeles 28-yard line. Bailey Zappe was sacked for a 2-yard loss on 3rd-and-3, pushing the ball back to the 30. Instead of trying a 47-yard field goal with more than seven minutes remaining, New England went for it on fourth down. Zappe was sacked again.

The Patriots outgained the Chargers 257-241, but a fumble on the Chargers’ 31 in the first half kept them off the scoreboard. New England ranks No. 2 in the NFL Week 13 bad beat rankings.

No. 1 Titans logo Tennessee Titans +1.5

It’s never easy to lose with an underdog in overtime. But the Titans were especially tough to handle. Tennessee and Indianapolis battled throughout the game. Neither team ever led by more than a touchdown. The Colts took a 25-19 lead with 11:34 remaining on a field goal. Indianapolis set up the field with their second blocked punt of the game. The first was returned for a touchdown.

The Titans drove down the field and scored a touchdown with 5:26 remaining. But Nick Folk picked a bad time to miss his first extra point this season, and the game remained tied at 25. Folk was 97% on extra points in his career. But the Tennessee holder is typically punter Ryan Stonehouse. But he was knocked out of the game on the second blocked punt. That left Ryan Tannehill to hold the ball on the extra-point attempt. It may not have mattered. But it certainly didn’t help the Titans.

The game went into overtime, and the Titans received the ball first. Tennessee drove down the field and kicked a field goal. But the Colts came back with a 55-yard pass to set up a game-winning touchdown pass from Gardner Minshew to Michael Pittman with 2:31 remaining to end the game. The betting odds calculator had the Titans with a 77.5% chance of covering the spread after scoring. But it wasn’t meant to be, as the Tennessee Titans captured the top spot in the NFL Week 13 bad beat rankings.
