Patriots vs Cowboys Betting Preview: Dallas Seeks Rebound After Shocking Loss

Pats Looks To Win On Road Against Cowboys, Third Straight Time

Offensive Line Injuries Could Have an Impact on Patriots-Cowboys Clash

There might not be two other NFL franchises who seemingly are in the spotlight whether they win or lose more than the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys, thanks to their 11 combined Super Bowl titles and passionate fan bases. When they meet on Sunday for the first time since 2021, the Patriots vs Cowboys betting preview lists Dallas as the 6.5-point favorite.

The line has moved from 7.5 to 6.5 after Dallas fell to Arizona and New England picked up its first win of the season by beating the New York Jets.

New England had won the previous six matchups before visiting Dallas won the 2021 matchup. New England has won its last two road games versus Dallas with a 30-6 win as an 8.5-point favorite in 2015 and 48-27 as a five-point favorite in 2007.

Dallas covered in its only game as a home favorite after going 5-2 against the spread when favored at home in 2022. New England failed to cover in four of its six games as the road underdog in 2022.

This is the first game in 2023 when New England is the underdog away from home.

Dallas (+900) is fifth in the odds to win the Super Bowl with the Patriots well back at +8000 in the championship odds.

Patriots Struggling to Seal The Deal

Moving the ball is not an issue for New England so far during the 2023 NFL season as the Patriots are 11th in passing yards per game and 14th in rushing yards per game. However, that has resulted in just 17.3 points per game. Keep that in mind when it comes to the Patriots vs Cowboys betting preview.

It hasn’t helped that the Patriots are 27th in the NFL in scoring in the first quarter and 29th (out of 32 teams) in third-quarter scoring. A defense that ranks fifth in yards allowed and passing yards allowed has kept New England in games.

New England has failed to cover against the NFL odds in six of its last seven games.

Cowboys Ready to Rebound

Elimination polls were taking quite a pounding when the Cowboys were stunned by Arizona last week. The Cowboys, favored by 11 points according to the NFL scores and odds, had won their last six games as double-digit favorites during the regular season before the 12-point loss to Arizona. This might not be the best time to face this Dallas team coming off such a forgettable performance.

Dallas ranks in the top five in the NFL in scoring offense and defense with the Cowboys allowing an average of 2.3 points per game in the second half of games and are second in the NFL in first-quarter scoring. That will factor into the Patriots vs Cowboys betting preview.

The total has gone under in five of Dallas’ last seven games.

Last Meeting

There were 17 points scored in the final 2.5 minutes of the fourth quarter including Greg Zuerlein’s game-tying 49-yard field goal with 20 seconds to play.

Dallas won the game on Dak Prescott’s touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb in overtime.

The game finished over the 50.5-point total on a 75-yard pass from Mac Jones to Kendrick Bourne with 2:11 to play. Eight of the previous nine matchups finished under the total.

Dating back to 1981, the 2021 meeting was the second-highest total between the Patriots and Cowboys.
