Rashee Rice Stats
When the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Rashee Rice in the second round of the 2023 they were pleased. There were six other wide receivers selected before him. But none of them posted the types of numbers the Rashee Rice player stats showed for 2023.
Rice caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns on the NFL season. Only Puka Nacua had better numbers among rookies. But Rice saved his best for Kansas City’s playoff win over Miami. He had eight receptions for 130 yards and one touchdown.
SMU Mustangs
Rice grew up in North Richland Hills, Texas, just 30 miles from Dallas. He played high school football for Richland High School and chose SMU so his friends and family could make the short trip to Dallas to watch him play.
As a freshman, Rice had 25 receptions for 403 yards and a touchdown and got progressively better each season. As a senior, Rice had a breakout season, catching 96 passes for 1,355 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Rashee Rice player stats for his four seasons with the Mustangs show 233 catches for 3,111 yards. He scored 25 touchdowns, with 19 coming in his last two years.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs were expected to look for a wide receiver after trading Tyreek Hill to Miami on March 23, 2023. The Chiefs felt they had one of the best NFL running backs in Isiah Pacheco, who rushed for 830 yards as a rookie. But they wanted another target for Patrick Mahomes. When Rice was available at No. 55 overall, Kansas City snagged him up.
It didn’t take Rice long to make his presence felt. He had a touchdown in his first NFL game against Detroit. But Rice began to blossom in the second half of the season. His NFL player stats show 30 receptions for 361 yards in his first eight games. But he had 49 receptions for 577 yards the rest of the way.
In the playoffs, Rice’s 130 receiving yards against the Dolphins were a career-high. He had 127 yards against the Bengals on New Year’s Eve. His eight receptions tied for the second-most receptions he’s had in a game.
He had nine catches against New England on Dec. 17, but his performance against Miami helped set the tone of the game and helped the Chiefs be on the right side against the NFL scores and odds.
The Rashee Rice stats show he set Kansas City rookie records for the most receptions and the most touchdowns. He is in second place in receiving yards after sitting out the final regular season game of the year.
