Will Patriots Defeat the Jets for the 16th Consecutive Time?

The Jets vs Patriots Game Odds Have New England Favored in Week 18

The New York Jets and New England Patriots don’t have much motivation for this Week 18 matchup.

The Patriots are 4-12, while the Jets are 6-10. Neither team can make the playoffs. Ultimately, fans from both NFL teams would rather lose this game to earn a higher draft pick. But it’s not always where the higher draft pick becomes the better player.

The Jets have been relying on Zach Wilson at quarterback. He was a high draft pick that the Jets were excited about. But he never lived up to the hype and has set the Jets farther back than they hoped.

Meanwhile, the Patriots took a chance on Mac Jones a few years ago. He was eventually benched for a younger quarterback in, Bailey Zappe.

Having a top draft pick doesn’t always mean you’ll get a top NFL player in terms of production.

That said, Zach Wilson has missed the last two games due to a concussion. With nothing left to play for, Wilson, even if cleared, probably won’t even play in this one. It’ll likely be Trevor Siemian, who has a 16 QBR in four games played this season.

That’s why the Patriots are favorites at -2.5 (-115). It’s also why the total is low at 30.5. You can buy the Patriots at -148 on the moneyline.

Jets vs Patriots Game Odds & Trends

The Jets are 5-10-1 against the spread this season. However, the Jets have only won against the spread in one game over the last ten games. They’ve gone 1-8-1 in the previous ten NFL matchups.

Meanwhile, the Under has hit in seven of 16 games for the Jets. New York has also won just two games on the road this year.

On the other hand, the Patriots are 6-10 against the spread and have also hit the Under in nine of 16 games. Oddly enough, New England is just 1-6 at home.

Still, the Jets haven’t beat the Patriots in a long time. New England has won each of the last ten games and has won against the spread in six straight games against the Jets.

Is Head Coach Robert Saleh Angry?

The New York Jets won’t be making the playoffs this season. It’s another brutal season for the Jets, and now Robert Saleh is 17-33 as the head coach of the Jets heading into Week 18.

A reporter asked Saleh why he didn’t seem angry about the Jets’ woes recently. He responded to the reporter, asking if he should fling the podium on the ground.

New York will finish in third place in the AFC East this NFL season. That’s an upgrade from the last two seasons when the Jets finished last. But that’s not where the Jets expected to be three years ago.

Aaron Rodgers got in Week 1, which took a toll on the Jets. New York wasn’t prepared with a backup plan and forced Wilson to take over as quarterback when he was supposed to be on the sideline and learn.

Saleh, the current coaching staff, and the general manager will return next year. He’s got one more chance with Rodgers and the defense to show that he can be the head coach of the Jets.

Where Do The Patriots Go From Here?

Rumors have circulated that Bill Belichick will no longer coach the Patriots after this season. Since Tom Brady left, the Patriots have struggled to find the same consistency.

They’ll finish with at least 12 losses this season and don’t have a single player on the team to build around. New England never prepared themselves with reliable wide receivers, and the offensive line is about to get weak after Trent Brown was strategically benched to save money.

New England will be in a great position to land a new franchise quarterback in the NFL Draft. It won’t be Caleb Williams from USC unless the Patriots trade for him. But other quarterbacks like Drake Maye, Bo Nix, and Jayden Daniels are names that the Patriots could eye moving forward.

Fatigue Has Set In For The Jets

The Jets are known for their tough defense and low turnovers on offense.

But recently, that hasn’t been the case. The New York defense has allowed at least 28 points in their last three games. That’s the fatigue setting in. The Jets’ defense has been asked to do too much. It dominated for most of the year. But with nothing to play for and many snaps on the defensive side of the ball, the Jets are finished.

On the other hand, the Patriots have won two of their last four games. They’ve also scored at least 17 points in each of those four games.

Quite frankly, 17 points will probably be enough against the Jets.

The Patriots are the better run defense. They’re also tackling at a higher rate. On the other hand, the Jets are dominant against the pass, with a better pass rush and better secondary.

Therefore, the Patriots should be able to dictate this game on the ground with Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott has been starting at running back with Rhamondre Stevenson injured. However, he’s only added 3.1 yards per carry or worse over the last five games. So that’s not too enticing.

Meanwhile, the Patriots have struggled to get pressure on the quarterback. But that should change against a Jets offensive line that hasn’t been able to stop pressure all season long.

The Patriots have New York’s number. While neither team is in the AFC playoff picture or has Super Bowl odds, the NFL standings prove both are weak. But after looking through the Jets vs Patriots game odds, it’s clear that the Patriots have a slight edge with Zappe at quarterback against Siemian of the Jets.

Take the Patriots at -2.5 (-115).
