Inter Milan vs Cagliari Odds, Preview

Nerazzurri Continue to Dominate

Cagliari Take Big Step Toward Survival

Claudio Ranieri was the mastermind behind the most unlikely title charge of all-time, as Leicester City won the Premier League in 2016. Now the boss of Cagliari, Ranieri is trying to mastermind their survival and the Sardinians took a big step last weekend.

They managed a shock 2-1 win over Atalanta and now they head to the San Siro to take on Serie A leaders Inter Milan. It’s nearly a foregone conclusion that Inter will win the Serie A title this season but they’ll want to get things wrapped up early. As both teams have quite a lot to play for here, we’ll preview the Inter Milan vs Cagliari odds.

Inter Milan vs Cagliari Head-to-Head

This fixture has been about as one-sided as it gets in recent times. Inter Milan have won the last five meetings on the Serie A schedule. In the reverse fixture in Sardinia, Denzel Dumfries and Lautaro Martinez scored in a 2-0 Inter Milan victory.

The Nerazzurri are also unbeaten in the last eight overall. Cagliari last defeated Inter in 2019 and haven’t done so at the San Siro since 2016.

Inter Complete the Comeback

Inter Milan went on the road to Udine for a match vs Udinese on Monday. The Nerazzurri conceded the first goal of a match for the first time since November. In the 40th minute, Udinese’ Lazar Samardzic sent in a cross turned shot that trickled into the net as neither Denzel Dumfries nor Yann Sommer dealt with it.

It was a rare miscommunication for Inter but they’d equalize early in the second half. Right at the death, Davide Frattesi pounced on a rebounded shot to hand Inter a 2-1 comeback victory.

It certainly appears that no one will catch Inter Milan in the Serie A table. With a 14 point advantage over second-placed AC Milan, Inter Milan just need to win here and next week in the Derby della Madonnina vs their rivals to seal the Serie A title.

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter have managed an incredible 26-4-1 record in the league to this point and their only loss was back in September.

Strangely enough, defenders have been scoring most of Inter’s goals for the last few weeks. Left wing back Federico Dimarco has scored in three of his last four games overall.

Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez is on a four game goal drought but still leads the Serie A stats, with 23 goals. Inter’s star striker is suspended for this match, along with Benjamin Pavard. That could open up an opportunity for Marko Arnautovic or Alexis Sanchez. Defenders Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan De Vrij are also dealing with injuries.

Resilient Cagliari on Good Run of Form

Cagliari started off the season just 4-6-14 in Serie A and were languishing in the relegation zone. Over their last seven matches, Cagliari have gone 3-3-1 and have moved up to 13th place in the league. Their last match was arguably their biggest win of the season.

Gli Isolani fell behind in the 13th minute, when Atalanta’s Gianluca Scamacca found the net with a clever chip. However, Ranieri and Cagliari are not to be counted out and Tommaso Augello equalized before halftime with a left-footed rocket.

Late on in the second half, two substitutes ensured Cagliari completed the comeback. Zito Luvumbo sent in a cross that Nicolas Viola headed past Marco Carnesecchi. Cagliari have incredibly gained 16 of their 30 points from losing positions this season. Although Cagliari have conceded in each of their last four games, they’re 2-1-1 during that time.

No Cagliari player has reached five Serie A goals thus far, as Luvumbo, Viola and Leonardo Pavoletti are all tied with four. Eldor Shomurodov, on loan from Roma, has started the last four matches and has scored two goals and provided an assist during that time.

Although Cagliari’s form has improved considerably as of late, they’re still only 1-4-10 on the road in Serie A. While Nahitan Nandez and Alessandro Deiola are suspended here, Pavoletti and Andrea Petagna are injured. The Inter Milan vs Cagliari odds list the visitors as two goal underdogs.

Match Analysis & Odds

Cagliari have scored just once in their last four matches vs Inter. Their late-season form has been exemplary but they are taking on Serie A’s most dominant team on Monday. Out of European competition and the Coppa Italia, Inter only have the league to focus on.

So, it’s no surprise that the Inter Milan vs Cagliari odds price the Nerazzurri as -600 favorites.

Inter -2 comes in at -120 odds but they haven’t won any of their last five Serie A games by more than a two goal margin. Cagliari are +1300 underdogs and they haven’t won vs Inter at the San Siro for over seven years. Inter have conceded under 0.5 goals per game and Cagliari under 0.5 goals is priced at -120 odds here.

A draw, while not ideal from Inter’s perspective, still keeps them on course for the Scudetto. A deadlock displays +675 odds, while over 3, 3.5 goals stand at -115.
