Inter Milan vs Napoli Head-to-Head

Napoli’s Serie A calcio results vs. Inter Milan have not typically been pretty. The Partenopei have won just two of the last ten Serie A meetings and fell 3-0 to Inter in Naples in November. The pregame Inter Milan vs Napoli Serie A odds priced Inter as +140 road favorites. The Nerazzurri also defeated Napoli 1-0 in the Supercoppa Italiana final in January.

Inter Winning Streak Comes to an End

Simone Inzaghi came under fire for the substitutions he made in Inter Milan’s loss to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. Usually managers are wary of substituting their defenders but Inzaghi subbed off three of his backs with a 2-1 aggregate lead. Heading into the match up 1-0, Federico Dimarco doubled Inter’s lead in the first half, while Antoine Griezmann replied minutes later for Atletico. With Inter holding a one goal advantage, Inzaghi subbed off Denzel Dumfries, Alessandro Bastoni and Dimarco.

Inter looked almost too defensive from there on out and Memphis Depay scored an equalizer for Atletico. After a scoreless extra time period, Inter Milan converted just two of their five penalties in the shootout to fall 3-2. Heading into Wednesday’s match, Inter Milan were the hottest soccer betting pick in Europe. They were on a 13 game winning streak and the Nerazzurri are running away with the Serie A title.

Inter hold a 16 point lead with just 10 games to play and can clinch the Scudetto next month. While Lautaro Martinez missed his spot kick on Wednesday, he’s been one of Serie A’s best players this season. Inter’s captain has scored a league leading 23 goals. The Nerazzurri’s 18 game scoring streak is also still intact. Only sporadic starters are out injured, like Marko Arnautovic, Juan Cuadrado and Carlos Augusto.

Napoli Lose for First Time Under Calzona

Napoli had their chances at Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday but failed to take them. Heading into the Round of 16 second leg all square at 1-1, a win would have seen Napoli through to the Quarters. However, they fell behind 1-0 as Fermin Lopez put Barcelona ahead on a nicely taken right footed finish. Barça went two ahead as Raphinha, who assisted the first goal, hit the post and Joao Cancelo put in the rebound. Amir Rrahmani got a goal back for the Partenopei, who had a half to get things right.

Jesper Lindstrom missed a point blank header, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sent a shot marginally wide and Mathias Olivera hit the crossbar as Napoli fell 3-1. It was Napoli’s first loss since Francesco Calzona took over as interim coach in late February. In his six games in charge, Napoli are 2-3-1 and both teams have scored in each match.

Last time out in Serie A, Napoli disappointingly drew 1-1 vs. Torino. Kvaratskhelia scored for a third straight game in Serie A but the Partenopei conceded soon after. Kvara leads the Serie A stats, with 35 shots on target and he’s scored 10 goals this season. Napoli have also been much improved with Victor Osimhen back in the lineup. They’ve also got a clean bill of health heading into this one.

Inter Milan vs Napoli Match Analysis & Odds

Inter Milan opened up as -165 favorites for this match vs. Napoli but their odds have dropped to -150. After both of their other losses this season, Inter won their match that immediately followed. The Nerazzurri are one goal favorites for this one and Inter -1 comes in at -105 odds. Meanwhile, Napoli are +415 underdogs but the Partenopei haven’t won a Serie A match away at Inter since 2017.

The Inter Milan vs Napoli Serie A odds also list a draw at a +320 price. The Partenopei have failed to score in three of their last four games vs. Inter Milan overall but Napoli over 0.5 goals is priced at -190. Inter have kept shutouts in five of their last seven games overall but did look vulnerable at Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

While Napoli cannot mathematically defend their title at this point, this match will mean quite a lot to them. If they’re able to pull off a win, they’ll be back in the race for a top five spot, which may confer an extra Champions League spot with the new format change. For the Serie A match of the week, over 2.5 goals show -140 odds.
