A Year to Forget, NFL Stars That Suffered Season-Ending Injuries

Not the Season We Were Expecting…16 Starters Have Been Sidelined in 202

Tough Year 🥴

This has been one of the weirdest NFL seasons and you don’t need to look further than last night’s Joe Flacco performance to see why. Quarterback injuries have been rampant this year. This is a big reason why Brock Purdy is being talked about in NFL MVP discussions.

The quarterback injuries have been early and often this season. The first big one was Aaron Rodgers tearing his Achilles in his first drive as a New York Jet. Though he talked about coming back this season, recent NFL news and NFL rumors proved that was all talk.

Another major quarterback injury was to Joe Burrow. The Cincinnati Bengals were among the Super Bowl favorites this year but he tore a ligament in his throwing wrist, which ended his season. The Bengals are still in the NFL playoff mix but it’s difficult to imagine they’ll go far without Burrow.

It’s actually been a brutal year for the AFC North all around. The Cleveland Browns lost Deshaun Watson for the season with a broken shoulder bone and the Pittsburgh Steelers have been without Kenny Pickett for weeks with an ankle injury. We’re not even done with the quarterback injuries yet!

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins have been ruled out for the season and so has Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson. Half of the NFL has had their starting quarterback miss NFL games this season. It’s just been rough and the on-field product has suffered. That said, the NFL is still king and is dominating the ratings.

I can’t remember a season in my lifetime that has been this bad for quarterback injuries. The quarterback play overall hasn’t been either. It’s like Tom Brady retired and everything went to crap.

It hasn’t just been quarterbacks who are getting injured. We’ve seen plenty of star players get knocked out for the year. Browns running back Nick Chubb has been done since Week 2, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has missed most of the season and so has Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa.

While turf isn’t the only reason NFL players are getting injured, I think it’s about time owners start installing grass fields in all 32 stadiums. Artificial turf isn’t helping with all these injuries so why not just make the move to grass? I know it’s expensive but it’s better than seeing your star quarterback get knocked out for the season.
